Preparing for Winter V

Our school is always open but luckily only 5 min walk (or 15 if you are 4 and excited about the snow, lol).
I'm home with said 4 yr old and she's just sat on the lawn again in her snow suit letting it all fall on her. She looks blissful, little sweetie.
If it continues like this I'll have to take DS snow boots when we go collect him
Until then, DD and I are just having a relaxing day. We have plenty of supplies and a nice clear calendar. So we can just enjoy the white stuff!Bossymoo

I do have warm clothes to wear, I've got thermal socks & walking boots to keep my feet warm and dry, then I wear jeans (can't wear thermals or tights under them or I get too hot), then a thick tshirt, a thin jumper, a big cotton scarf tucked into the jumper and wrapped around my neck, then a mans hoody over the top. I have gloves and a woolly hat, although I sometimes just wear a baseball cap for when its very cold or raining. Trust me, in that lot I get HOT!
Last night I was putting out postcards to customers so I needed to wear fingerless gloves or they would have blown away in the wind. With having Raynauds my fingers get cold very fast so although the rest of me was warm, my fingers were like ice.
I have my hand warmers ready for tonight, and will have a hot meal & hot drink before I go out, the heating will be on 20C so we can warm up faster when we pop home between deliveries without hugging the radiators, and we'll have hot drinks in travel mugs waiting. This is my 5th winter being an /-\von rep so I've learnt the best way to cope, and this isn't the worst I've delivered in. Its not anywhere near as glamorous as the adverts make out :rotfl:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I hope that everyone is well and keeping warm. Is it only me or does anyone else get annoyed at the fuss made on the news programmes when the snow does fall? 10 minutes spent on our local programme last night showing us what snow looks like, how deep it is etc. I appreciate a warning if roads are closed or dangerous, electricity is about to go off etc., but really!
They even have to send out a presenter, on those 'dangerous' roads to stand in it, making another hazard for drivers trying to avoid them... Moan over:oThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Yes, we thought it strange when the local reporter traipsed through the drift up against the stone wall up on the moors.I wonder how long it took them to find one deep enough! The fields around about were hardly covered as all the snow had blown up against the walls and you could see the grass in the fields. The poor frozen chap on the national news in New York looked in serious danger of being run over, or slid into. I do get annoyed that they send reporters out to such places when we've already heard from the weathermen/ladies that we shouldn't go out on the roads unless absolutely necessary. This type of reporting isn't.2025 Fashion on the ration

We've had some snow here, actually I woke up to a light covering this morning. Nothing to get excited about but as usual the news channels get overexcited.
I'm getting really fed up with this winter. This house is so cold and feels worse with it being constantly cold outside. I have a thermal blackout blind in DS bedroom and have decided to get some for my bedroom and possibly other rooms. The kitchen is freezing so I need to get that sorted. It needs a complete refurb as I have a horrible 60's white melamine one, but blocking gaps for the next few years will have to do. First big spend will be double glazing though.
Off do try to block more gaps and mop up more condensation.

I got double glazing parsnip and the wind is still whistling and howling into the north side of the house. The bathroom is torture lol -I've ordered thermal blinds and wide tape for the windows. Got a thermal door curtain on the back door that really makes a difference - but you have to tuck it in round the edges or the draught just comes in there instead.0

For all the snow lovers who haven't got any
Cairngorm Mountain weather update:
Access roads closed at the moment. There has been heavy overnight snowfall with up to 15" at car park level. White-out blizzard conditions are affecting the upper mountain.
It is looking like a no go today.0 -
We both felt freezing last night so we put the upstairs heater back on and got into bed with hot drinks about 9pm.:D
I was supposed to wash my hair but I couldn't stand the thought of making myself feel colder.:eek:HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I've filled my screenwash today - was empty and it said to only dilute one in four in winter, so a good strong solution has gone in. Also put a bag of salt in my boot - I need to be in the office tomorrow unfortunately whereas usually I can WFH if the weathers bad.
Hate driving in snow. Am definitely leaving earlyBossymoo
