Windy and wet week ahead here too. One winter job worth adding to the list now the storms are starting: a 'power cut box' you can find in the dark. Torches or head torches with fresh batteries, a charged power bank, matches or an electronic lighter, and key numbers on paper (105 for power cuts). And with the clocks going back on Sunday, it's a good week to test the smoke and CO alarms too.

It’s bitingly cold down here, too. I was at the NFL match yesterday at Wembley. Out of the wind, I was adequately dressed in thermal jeans, long-sleeved wool top, padded coat, hat and scarf, but whenever it blew in my direction, I was freezing. Lesson learned. I was under-dressed. Quite a shock after all the warm weather we’d been having.
Understood, re your DH. Sounds like he’s well out of there.

Found our head torches in the garage- the ones we used to keep in our rucksacks when we belonged to the Ramblers.I've brought them inside, changed the batteries and one is now hanging on a hook beside the fuse box.

@annieb64 - good shout. As my OH hilariously once said ‘head torch - good for those two hand jibs’ 🫢
We have a stop on unnecessary Christmas presents - but we got head torches from the bargain of h@mes this year for less than £3 each - they don’t come with batteries so we did have to buy those as well - for all the youngins in extended family. Some of whom are living in a large shed and have to traverse a cold dark slippy backyard to get to toilet in night. I don’t know how they do it - the thought of it makes my bones ache!
