Preparing for Winter V

It's always a shock to my body clock when the clicks go back, Pattypan4.
I've been allowing myself to retire to bed earlier than normal. Although, it's feels quite "seasonal" to be walking home from work in the dark & cold. & Getting in to a warm house still feels lovely.
I need to get some new gloves & umbrella for my commute, so may treat myself in John Lewis - they have the most robust umbrellas, for around £20.0 -
This is my time of year, I love the long cosy dark nights
I knit or read. Or yakk on here

Yeah, same as Mar. I read and knit a fair bit. I have a spot light over my shoulder so I can illuminate what I'm knitting but it's still cosy with the candles on. I read more on my kindle at this time of year as well. I have the screen black so I can sit, again in the dark with candles, but still read. I guess that won't keep you awake being all dark and dull but it's a way to embrace the time of year while keeping the brain ticking over.
I don't read fiction by the way. I read alsorts about everything. At the moment I'm reading about how nature can heal us in November, a book about alternative to consumerism during Winter Solstice and always have something about spirituality on the go.0 -
I think my body clock is still out of synch with real time, maybe I should do what NI does and go up a bit earlier but then s*ds law I will wake earlier and the cycle starts all over again. I tried reading in bed and don`t last ten minutes. Maybe I have got to have that afternoon nana nap, the one I am always fighting against. I need more energy in the evenings, I feel as though time is flying and all I get, is older. I could try learning a new skill, maybe crochet, I could learn to make a very long scarf0

I tend to crochet, sometimes we might watch a film but generally we're not telly people. We don't have a tv license any ore as we just considered it a waste of money. We love listening to podcasts when we go to bed and I'm often asleep within minutes but can always listen to them again to catch up.
We always tend to have a jigsaw on the go this time of year too, love playing board games and cards too.
Our new log burner has settled in nicely, we've got a,log delivery due this morning and I've got plenty of space made in the garage to stack it.
I've got at least a years worth of wood to cut over the winter, all the stuff we've cut down already in the garden and I've since found a lot more wood that's been dumped over the back fence and can now get into the woodland behind us. The wood land owner is happy for us to cut down any trees encroaching on our border so we will be able to thin out a bit and help the struggling trees whilst gaining some more firewood for ourselves. Luckily there's a lovely dry sheltered area that I can stack it all when cut and leave it to season off."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
i Set myself challenges in the months before Christmas,I don’t want to dip into our savings so I try to make money selling things on eBay .I have a room that’s brightly lit and put on some uplifting music, close the curtains and it doesn’t feel like winter.
I am also having ago at painting Mandela stones, lots on YouTube showing you how to do it.
There’s heaps of craft ideas on there.
So far I have made £475.00 so that should cover most of our Christmas gifts.0 -
I am very afraid of the cold, because my constitution is very weak since childhood, so my best anti-cold plan is to lie in a warm bed, full heating sleep for the winter.0

I'm knitting a, hummm, not sure what to call it, a cape or a shawl or even a throw, they had them in L*dl a couple of years back, just straight knit up the back then spilt in the middle to work the front, doing in a nice aran wool that I got when the WI did their centenary give away, a very kind lady also gave me her voucher as she did not find a wool she liked.
A difference was noticed with the new curtains. :-]£71.93/ £180.000 -
Fuddle, look on amazon for the thermals, I got the men's version for myself and OH, just right on him, long in the back for me, keep's my bum warm. lol
boultdj, I never thought of wearing mens thermals. I bought myself a dark coloured long-sleeved men's vest today. Tried it on when I returned home. It will solve the problem of my cold rear end. I'll buy another when I'm back in the shop next week. Thanks for the idea.
It's amazing all the things I've picked up up from the MSE website over the years.0 -
