lovely sunny day up here pattypan, but sitting at 5c.
  • Much colder here today and a good frost last night still on the back lawn at 8 this morning. Clear and bright all morning with sunshine but clouded over now and rapidly cooling down. Thank goodness for the woodstove!
  • There was a frost here this morning. I went out wearing my jumper but I really could have done with a coat as it is much colder here today.

I think I will make a hot water bottle to watch TV tonight and maybe to bed as well.

There's been a light frost here the last couple of mornings, but lovely sunny days so it made sense to do more garden prep for winter :)

Between us we've managed to move some ancient woodpiles left scattered around by the previous owners - that's gone into an outbuilding to dry off. We took delivery of more gravel for paths (that's five dumpy bags so far ....and counting as I'm sure we'll need more) and have got lots more membrane laid in readiness. The all-weather rattan furniture has been hosed and scrubbed, the polytunnel cleaned out and some new shelving added, then the tender plants in pots that need overwintering have been moved in......

DH also chopped more logs and I loaded up the logstores.

    Phew!

Still need to do work dividing the massive rose bed we created last year into more manageable beds - my job for the rest of the week while DH is working ;)

Frost here too. Enjoyed the last my lovely pink dahlias yesterday which have overnight turned to a soggy mush.

Toonie I follow a Norwegian knitter on social media and she too has allergic reactions to her beloved wool. She finds that the coarser, more rustic wools cause her problems but the lighter 4ply,merino bases (expensive I know) are fine. She's currently re knitting her wardrobe. She lives in Norway and suffers with fibromyalgia so feels the cold. Life has certainly dealt a cruel hand but she's working round it. I thought to mention it incase, although I know every allergy is different, you might not have a reaction to lighter wools as well.

Also cotton can knit up into quite a hefty warm number as well. It could be an option to you and te charity shop will be your friend. I wish you luck. An allergy that brings you warmth is so very cruel. :(
  • I'm allergic to wool too (or least, was when I was a child and haven't dared find out if I still do as an adult). I bought two nice knitted 100% cotton jumpers from Cotton Traders, and got cashback from Quidco. Currently sitting wearing one over my PJs as I type. Mainly bought them so I don't spend the winter living in my hoodie!

Today I used the slow cooker for the first time! Made a beef stew recipe I found on the BBC Good Food website. It came out very well, and I also made dumplings for the first time which were also very tasty. Two portions for the freezer for future chilly days.

  • Second morning waking up to a frost & 1c temp outside.
Heating firmly set to on & the house seems to be holding its heat well enough.
I'm enjoying walking to work in the crisp air.

Last year I used summer tee shirts under jumpers as a kind of vest. It's surprising what a difference an extra layer makes and I was happy to replace them with new ones for the summer! (Yes they make good dusters don't they? :) )

I find that I feel the cold at the top of my arms so am better with a T shirt instead of a vest.
