Preparing for Winter V

Toonie, I have to say that I avoided looking to buy any house that had an open wall to the conservatory. I have been visiting someone who has one and it is boiling in summer and freezing in winter. Maybe some thick curtains eg dunelm ones, the long ones that you would have to sew or pin together. Its going to need a sturdy curtain pole but would be worth it until you sort yourself out. This winter could be freezing for a long time, according to the express
Yet another grey day after being spoiled by sun for a bit. Happy music on and full swing soup making for the freezer. You cannot beat a thick pea or minestrone0 -
Thanks pattypan4. Moving all happened rather quickly as my DP had to sell the house he owned with his ex, so whilst we love our first little house together, it possibly has a few things we wouldn't have wanted.
Thankfully the conservatory was done to quite a high build standard and so has a radiator in it, so presumably once we start putting the heating on it won't be so bad in there.
Very grey day here in London, carrot and barley soup is bubbling away though, so that's my next stop!Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Toonie how handy I'd your DP? I ask because my kitchen is open to my living room. Thankfully it's not a cold kitchen but as the oven/washing machine/kettle are noisy we have looked into closing it off. We found that there a runners for sliding doors. We haven't done it, it's still open 2.5 years later but it could be a solution without adding door frames etc.
Hope to help incase it sparked some ideas for you.0 -
heck, I have givn in and removed the rotary airer to the garage, I`ll have to be watching out for any reasonable drying day from now on. One day a week will do me, as long as the weather people get it right, so I can get washing done for daylight drying. I don`t like to see it at risk of deforming with the wind, don`t want to have to buy another one0

WeegieWumman Looking for some new fleece pyjamas. Where did you get yours for £8? Looked at some in town yesterday but didn't get any. I think they are so cosy in the winter.0

Toonie, we used to have a cold kitchen. I found that cooking something in the slow cooker in the evening helped raise the temperature and provided a meal prepared in advance for the freezer or next day. Maybe you could use your slow cookers for this?
A rice pudding made a lovely warming supper and was cheap to make and the smell of a home-prepared meal is so much nicer than air fresheners or scented candles in my opinionThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Miserable day, as forecasted. Persistent heavy rain for more than 24hours now.
I was going to go to Aldi/Tesco to do my big monthly food shop, but I don't fancy going out at all today.
Currently sat in the lounge watching TV with the gas fire on & my heated back massager cushion kneading away, trying to find the motivation to get some indoor chores done. The shopping can wait until tomorrow.0 -
It is disgusting out, very windy and rainy. It didn`t half gust last night, was whistling through the window vents. It was warm though, I was too warm in my fluffy bed. I am making an effort today, have done a bit of a re-jig in the kitchen and am going to the pictures later this afternoon. It is one of those days when you could envy a dormouse0

Plans for a family reunion away this weekend have failed due to illness so making the most of the unexpected time at home, just watching the rain patter down thw windows and enjiying a few hours of unplanned "nothingness". Sometimes good just to let the world pass you by for a few hours and step totally off the treadmill. It,s one of life's rare commodities you can't buy !0

It's actually quite chilly outdoors.
I've had the heating on for an hour this lunchtime.
Some chores done - fresh bedding put on & the old ones have already been washed & are drying.
I'm going to treat myself to an afternoon snooze & leave tidying the kitchen until this evening while tea is in the oven. I never realized how tired I was this last week until I finally got a day off work.0
