Preparing for Winter V

We aren't forecast to get a lot of the high winds (East Anglia) but the wind has certainly picked up this afternoon so I have moved and put away anything that could take off if the winds get worse.0

We really don't HAVE to justify what we post to any one of our contributors. As far as I understand it this is a freedom of speech thread and we can post what we feel will be useful. We are all, allegedly, adults and the board guides will be the first to let us know if we have overstepped the boundaries when posting. It would be much nicer if we could keep the tone on a friendly basis and at least try to post in a civil manner even if we don't agree with someone elses post that we have read. Move on !!!0

Well I don't give a monkey's left bazooka who said what and when. All I know is that we are here, this is now and it is by-our-Lady cold!
Welcome to winter, folks, hope everyone is prepared for it!One life - your life - live it!0 -
My forecast is snow from 9pm tonight until 10am Thursday morning0

Blowing an absolute hooley or is it hoolie (?) here.
But it's not unusual to have high winds, part of the course of living by the Irish sea!
Tomorrow late afternoon, evening will be fun -on an outside charity stall! They may cancel the event-with any luck!
Am in work in the morning, so I've just put together my all weather thermal gear ready for a quick change when I get in.
Glad of all the preps as I'm defrosting some homemade butternut squash soup which I'll boil up tomorrow afternoon and put in my soup flask for my friend & I, if get a change to drink it whilst holding down the stall!!!
Take care everybody.

I had to share this with you guys!
I have been having a sort out (one of those, neverending sort outs) and in my children's bedroom was a broken pine !kea toy box and a broken large wicker basket.
Both have been taken to pieces and the pine split with an axe and are now supplying me with kindling! :money: The basket pieces went up a treat and I didn't even need firelighters which was just as well as I have run out :rotfl:

I'm starting to think someone is having a laugh and holding a blowtorch to the outside weather reader.... kitchen weather station says 15 outside and rising outside???? uhh boy thats almost bikini weather, although the cobwebs would most certainly be blown away. Hoping my hen house stays put as there were only 3 girls in there tonight, the others opted for the big shed which never moves (weighted down with breeze blocks)Thriftkitten

I do love the phrase "weather bomb" though. My boss came to a meeting this afternoon and before it started asked me if I'd heard about the weather bomb. I hadn't and wanted to know what it was. Well bad weather. I.e. a storm I suppose. it is blowy and rainy but I don't feel the cold either as yet. Its work tomorrow so fingers crossed its not too bad. Keep safe x0

Pops in to say " ooh! my snow shovels got mentioned in a tweet!" :j
Weatherbomb or no, it is jolly noisy out there this morning, fully expect to do the broken-branch-and-wheelie-bin slalom on way into work! Stay safe everyone:)***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***

Actually no, I'm not. I thought all the changes I made last winter would be enough to keep the heat in the house but they aren't. This cold snap has proved too much and the house gets cold as soon as the heating goes off, the heat just isn't staying in. So I'm now looking at what else I can do.
I've measured various windows and it looks like I will be best off going for a mix of fleece on some curtains and ready made thermal linings on others. Which leads me on to my question - how do you work out what size of ready made curtains you need to buy?
There are described as "to fit W 168cm x Drop 228cm"
The drop I understand but when they say width 168cm - do they mean the actual window or the width of fabric you require? Because my curtains are gathered so have more width of fabric than the width of the windows IYSWIM.
The house came with curtains so I've never had to do this before!0
