Well winter has arrived up here with a bang. :D
Rain hail sleet snow and thunder, all in one night. Temps veering from 10 last night to 0 this morning.
  • Just ignore me - there's a page on the website on how to measure for curtains - dur!

Snorkypants - curtain measurements are usually the width of each individual curtain. If you measure the width of your window and divide by two, then a pair of curtains which are each that width will only just touch when closed. Therefore you need to add half as much again or even double the measurement to get a decent fit. To put it more simply, say your window was 2 metres wide. If you got curtains just 1 metre width, they would only just shut. You would need to get at least 150 cm wide or even 200 cm wide to look right.

Lots of people use cheap fleece blankets or charity shop curtains as a lining, worth a thought.
One life - your life - live it!
  • Thanks Nargleblast. I was looking at fleece by the metre and thermal linings worked out cheaper for one window. But then I double checked against the £3 blankets from Wilko's and that works out cheaper still. So I will be using the blankets for that window.

Also I think I was calculating the amount needed wrong for the fleece by the metre. I think I need to start again tomorrow, when my brain is fresh!

I'm trying to keep the weight down so would rather not use extra curtains, fleece is nice and light.

This is one of the x2 crochet blankets i made a few winters ago. The cushion is one of many I have made in patchwork using recycled material.

Well it is certainly windy. Builder postponed fixing my bay window roof tomorrow. Glad he has, I don't want him falling off his ladder for me.

Must be a lot warmer house is warm for first time for just over a week.

Would help us keep warm if I could knit a teacosy for the roof.
  • Good advice. They are beautiful. I can't crochet, but can knit.
    They look lovely. Well done.
