Last Autumn I knitted hot water bottle covers.
Sorry for the silly question but I am a total beginner at knitting and have tried many a time to follow a pattern and failed... I'm thinking it may be easier to make hot water bottle covers though, does anyone have a pattern plz xxxThriftkitten

Draw around the bottle for a pattern but leave a good margin for sewing the seams. You can make it straight up ie a rectangle. You will need to pad the fabric with something, fleece, wadding, old jumper or some such. Sew a bit of wide tape around the outside up above where the neck narrows, leave the two tape ends open. Make a cord and feed through. Then pull the cord to tie the bottle in.
That should give you a simple sewn bottle cover. Would be good for christmas presents I think0 -

Hello Thriftkitten
The pattern I had was on a calendar from a Christmas mag last year.
It is cable front and back so not for a beginner.
You could try Ravely online for a free pattern or just knit a large square with a rib top for the bottle neck. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
My car door lock was frozen this morning... and the lock de-icer was in the car. Lesson learned!
Also can I ask? With regard to carpets for under car tyres, to get a grip when it is slippy, where do you put them?
I feel pretty prepared for the winter eventualities but I suspect that I shall be tested and I will have blipped in some areas. I am off work this weekend and have no plans so we'll see how this pans out. It looks like winds are going to be problematic in my neck of the woods but it is winds that do an awful lot of damage and see so many cases of loss of life.
I am very relieved that I was given the heads up quite some time ago about this period and because of that feel almost ok about the thought of having my preps tested.0 -
We built a bedroom over our garage a few years ago and it means our room gets so cold as the garage door allows cold air through. I am saving up to be able to put a false ceiling with more insulation up next winter, unfortunately funds are too tight this winter.
Blinds have been put up in a couple of windows to stop the heat going straight out and I have got DH to put a blind up in the Velux window in our room as I can only imagine the heat escape through the glass! :eek:0 -
MOS the bedroom over our garage is so cold that we no longer use it as a bedroom however, it is now the cold store room and perfect for that as I even keep the home grown apples up there and they store extremely well too. It's also good for the jams and preserves I make and I can be confident that nothing will ferment and go off as well.0

I looked out my fingerless gloves this morning to wear while searching the web for money off coupons.
I love coupon shopping.Really helps with the grocery bill.
I am going to Tesco later with my list. Keep looking for yellow stickers too!
Just over rode the CH for a while. Feeling cold.
Have eaten an apple for health. Will be steaming some fresh veg dinner time to go with the HM lasagne I made yesterday.
Oh yes, I can recommend Ecozone biobulb, Energy saving daylight bulbs. Bayonet cap 20W.
I bought mine from Amazon @ £7 each.
Not cheap but really good. It is a white light instead of yellow.
Bright and very suitable for reading and crafting.
We now have x4 in diffrent rooms as the main ceiling light.
I bought my daylight bulbs using vouchers from doing surveys.
I bought x2 on someone's recommendation of MSE and have just got x2 more. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -

If you don't often use the garage and have another door for access to it, can you seal up around the door with duct tape and bubble wrap? Just a thought...
Well operation "spring clean" will be underway again shortly for an hour. Doing it in shortish bursts is easier for me than tackling the job as a whole.0 -

Furball, you are a star! I do wonder where my brain is sometimes! Thank you :j0 -

I don't remember being told about strong winds? Could you point me to the specific post that predicted storm force winds this week?0
