I gave the Roku to my brother, but from what I remember, the Roku YouTube App offered to sync with the other unit by getting you to enter a code.

Yeah I got it activated there on laptop and had to insert code. If I can navigate now to where my playlists are....

Might just buy an HDMI cable as it says if you want the best picture to use one. I just connected with the a/v cable included and all's good. Thank you one and all, am very happy with my Roku!! :D

Cheap and cheerful will do it.

AV lead(composite) offers a resolution of only 480i
HDMI will offer considerably better quality.
A worthwhile investment, at less than £2.

Chromecast can mirror some of what is on the phone...

No ITV Player, No 4OD, No Demand 5...

Chromecast can mirror any tab in the Chrome browser - so whilst it doesn't discretely support those services, like it does with iPlayer, Netflix, this will work, if your phone and WiFi network is up to it.

    Doesn't work with 4OD.
As we revealed in our Chromecast review, you can already get ITV Player, All 4 (formerly known as 4oD) and Demand 5 on Chromecast now, via the desktop browser extension.

While this workaround is perfect for watching old episodes of The IT Crowd and Desmonds, the browser extension is slightly clunky and isn’t as convenient as pinging a show from your phone or tablet would be.

Chromecast mirroring for Android means you can get ITV Player on your TV screen through the back door, but the quality is iffy. 4oD sadly doesn't play ball with this method, but Demand 5 does.

I have both a now TV box and roku box. I got the roku as it does full hd and you can get more apps. It was second hand and I paid £20 to be honest I don't think it is worth paying more, the extra apps I never watch and like I said earlier the only channel that transmits in hd is iplayer and then it's not all the programmes so it really isn't worth paying the extra for unless of course you are going to take advantage of Netflix etc but these are paid options so personally I don't use them.

I am interested to know how I connect my phone for easier you tube searching on roku/now if anyone can explain. Thanks
In YouTube on my iphone there's a little 'screen icon' and it allows me to stream to TV. I had to get activation code first when I added YouTube on Roku.

    Details here:
On the YouTube channel, you'll find access to predefined video categories and can search videos without signing into your YouTube account. For the best YouTube experience, however, you will want to pair your device to your account, which is a two-step process that requires you to enter 2 codes shown in the Roku channel on two YouTube websites. After linking, you'll have access from within the YouTube Roku channel to all of your playlists, subscriptions, favorite videos, Watch Later videos, and a history of videos that you've watched within the channel.

Perhaps the most useful feature is the "Send to TV" function. After pairing your Roku to your YouTube account, you'll find a small icon below the bottom right corner of each video you watch on your computer or mobile device:
Click on this icon and the video will immediately play on your Roku-connected TV. This turns your mobile device into a remote control for your YouTube Roku channel.
