Can you turn HD TV into Smart wifi TV? Don't want to pay any subscriptions? Box?

Options
Hello

Is there any way of turning a HD TV into a Smart wifi TV? Would be handy for YouTube etc?

I overheard someone saying to buy a box? I don't have Sky or want to buy any subscriptions as such and suppose the easy way would be to get a HDMI lead but my laptop doesn't have HDMI port.

I wouldn't mind buying a box if one exists but don't want to pay any subscriptions? Is there any boxes?

  • What do you want to watch? A now TV box (£10) will let you watch catch up on BBC, itv, ch4 and ch5 and youtube with no subscription.

Not with a NOWTV box, but you can with a FireTV box from Amazon. They do however cost £70, but can be easily 'hacked' to add apps and stuff that Amazon won't let you add.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

Don't think I'd pay £70 for one lol, only looking really to use wifi, ebay, youtube so I can watch these on TV? Can I not do this with the £10 box?

    No...you cannot. YouTube. Yes.

If you want to use eBay, Amazon et al...you'll need the 'unlocked version of the NOW TV box; a Roku.
    I bought the LT 2400 for £20.

I meant the Roku 2400EU LT. Now cheapest seems to be £35. Perhaps you find one via eBay for less.
