The only thing I`m wary on in value products are meat products - can anyone recommend good quality (high meat content and none of the other rubbish) sausages, burgers, etc ?

We call it Blue Stripe in our household.;)
Almost sounds like a "lifestyle choice" (am obviously watching too much american tv).

The only thing that is vetoed is the Blue Stripe toilet roll which caused a mutiny!

  • I decant too! I don't mind so much but friends and family would so do it just to shut them up really!

Another thing you can do, rather than decanting into name brand containers is buy nice plain containers. For example I bought Tesco Value(!) clear plastic pump bottles and decant shampoo, conditioner and shower gel (bubble bath!) into them and no-one knows the difference, even snobby friends are happy to use it when they stay.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If I had the choice of friends and family calling in and spotting value products on my shelves/on the plate or debtor/bankruptcy paperwork on the table, I know which I would choose! (and it isn't the paperwork)

I'm just dreading after summer when I am having £65 a WEEK to fork out for dinner money.. and persuading the children they have to have pack up.. which means I will have to shop daily for fresh stuff and make the lunches and I'll definitely save money on that.. I'm budgetting £5 a DAY for 7 lunches!!! (I'll have refillable juice bottles).. Actually now I've thought about it I'll go do them a menu.. :D

I've been making packed lunches for French students. I buy the small packs of value ham (it is the same price as the larger packs) but they are easier to store. They could do lots of sarnies, with a bit of cheese or salad. I use the value pate, bacon and liver with tomato. They are lovely.

I bake a bakewell'ish tart, pastry, jam and fill with sponge. Cut it up and freeze. Twink's hobnobs, sponge cake (economical version).

tesco value crisps and snacks. Small packs so not too much salt.

    Value apple.

I watched a woman in ASDA carpark yesterday transferring all her shopping from ASDA bags to M&S ones. :rotfl: :rotfl: . I used to hide value cartons from ex OH because he would get annoyed about them, but I don't bother now. I do decant some things, but it's mainly because flour makes less mess in a plastic box and cereal doesn't go soft in tupperware. I also decant washing up liquid into a fairy bottle, but that is because my Dad gives it to us in 5 litre containers! Everything else is take as you find it. :o

washing up liquid is only 13p and is so thick and last ages.

    Hi,

Is the washing up liquid good? I buy alot of value range, but have never got on with value washing up liquid. When I say value I mean shops own value, like Smart Price in Asda and always buy then next one up which is either Asda or Tesco etc.

I'd deffently go for the washing up liquid if its recommened on here.

I dont personally like the value washing liquid and buy Fairy when on special at Makros.

I have tried nearly all value stuff in the different supermarkets and personally like:

    tinned sweetcorn
    kidney beans
    tinned toms
    mature cheddar
    tin foil
    sandwich bags
    toothpaste
    bananas
    porridge oats
    lemons
    lemonade
    apples (sainsburys basic-get 6 for 40p:eek:   )

TBH though, I now mainly shop at Waitrose as I can use all vouchers there even if I dont buy the product and they accept 50% off my shop. This makes buying branded or Waitrose own products much cheaper than value items;)

The pump containers are very economical for shampoo and conditioner. I have an old - very old - Vidal Sassoon pump shampoo dispenser. At the moment it has Lidl about a litre for £1 shampoo in it. It lasts for ages, the squirt it out containers are designed to give twice as much as you need - how do you get it back??????

I find Tesco value washing up liquid as good as any.
