The only problem I have is with sainsburys basic labels they are all the same so I have to get my glassess on to check what we are gong to eat. A couple of times I have opened basic tomatoes instead of beans etc.
The only toothpaste I buy is sensodyne at great expense because that's what the dentist recommended. Bath stuff shower gel etc I do get nice brands but usually from Boots glitches offer and using points.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

on the same sort of tack, people in the area where i work didn't like the tesco's shop till you drop van and told them so, so they now deliver to certain post codes in range rovers
:rotfl:
:eek: is that really true? That is hilarious :rotfl:. I am amazed at Tesco pandering to them - they must spend a lot to get a range rover delivery:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
that has perked up my morning so thank you!0 -
I buy whatever I find I like, and I refuse to pay ridiculous prices if I don't need to.my.I have just managed to get my husband to realise that cheap doesn't have to mean nasty when it comes to value ranges.I have to wonder at my daughter though she won't shop at Asda at all because she thinks it is tacky and turns her nose up when I say I got so and so on offer there. It does'nt seem to bother her when she runs out and needs to raid my cupboards, which because I shop wisely are always full.Who's the fool!0

LOL, this is not an attack, but I can't believe people do this! Who cares? And also, what types of people are around you that makes you feel the need to do this?
I don't buy much value stuff, but use their boxed tissues and sweetcorn at times, but wouldn't even think to do this."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
I love the value brands for most things as you can save so much,
Also when i have compared things in the shops the value brands on some items are healthier than the equivelent own buy item and they taste as good and save me money.:j WILL GET THERE SOON :j

We have converted BIL & SIL to tesco's nappies as they are a fraction of the cost of branded ones and do just as good a job.
We save even more and shop for fresh fruit and veg on the local market.
On another note I bought a bag of mcdougal's self-raising flour (actually on a recommendation fromm here for good pastry) so I thought surely there can't be much of a difference between that and a bag of value flour. Well, I've never been so surprised, and not in the way that you might expect. I did a batch with each and the value flour performed much better. Or maybe it's just because I'm too cheap to pay and am only used to the cheap stuff!

This is a really interesting discussion.
I have been known to put value handwash into posh branded handwash bottles, but it is impossible to hide that lurid blue colour!
I don't buy everything value, but lots of things are. I have a wealthy friend who I love dearly. She doesn't rub what she has in anyone's face, but she loves to shop at Waitrose. She thinks I am amazing! She thinks that to live OS is wonderful and something people who are strong and at ease with themselves and life do. I think she's right. It is much easier to go with the materialistic flow, to join in the 'branded' goods only game than say NO!!;)
It doesn't matter whether you flaunt your OS and value, charity shop, boot sale, second hand lifestyle, or, whether you hide it away and keep it secret. You are still doing it, nothing can take away the smug feeling of superiority when the person in front of you at the checkout spends £50 on what you buy for £20 - and we all know what we have bought it just as good. :j0 -
I like the fact ALL my shopping matches in the cupboards.. all in tesco value colours.. all looks very pretty and organised.. unlike those lurid, gaudy and vulgar packaging used by the posh brands.. simply doesn't match my decor!!! I als o find whatever brand I buy the children eat it all the same, I eat it and th ehubby eats it.. or drinks it.. or gets the cleaning done with it... so who cares??
My mother buys all branded stuff.. the 'cheapest' she gets is tesco pasta.. the premium stuff (I must admit I do buy this as it is nicer than the value one).. everything is branded and her shopping for 2 costs as much a week as my shopping for 10!!!!!!
I'm just dreading after summer when I am having £65 a WEEK to fork out for dinner money.. and persuading the children they have to have pack up.. which means I will have to shop daily for fresh stuff and make the lunches and I'll definitely save money on that.. I'm budgetting £5 a DAY for 7 lunches!!! (I'll have refillable juice bottles).. Actually now I've thought about it I'll go do them a menu..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
