Because it takes 6 litres of water to make the bottle that the water comes in and wastes resources just for the sake of it.
If you can afford it why not save the money you spend on bottled water and donate it to an animal charity.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

I buy value for most of the basics, but don't scrimp on meat, milk, tea or coffee. I drink my tea and coffee black and strong so if it's not so nice you can really taste it, it probably doesn't matter so much if you weaken it with milk.
One thing I will never understand is why so many people seem to insist on branded toilet roll - can someone explain that to me? I can understand eating value beans or something and finding them not to your taste... But do people really sit there and think "ahhh lovely and soft!" - seriously?!

Without going into too much detail... the tablets i take make me shall we say use the loo quite a lot  so after the third or fourth time in the loo a day you definitely "feel" the difference.
Other than that, I wont scrimp on kitchen towel as I use more of the cheap stuff to mop up spills than the more expensive stuff.
I do buy value other stuff, especially pasta and rice and things like that but prefer lidl or aldi quality rather than smart price. I have to say though value curry sauce from Sainsburys is very good
I also take a peek at peoples stuff on the conveyer belt but don't bother about the brands... i just like to see what other people are buying. A bit like a glimpse into their lives. I do sometimes gasp at the totals of some people shopping. I would actually seriously faint if my shopping came to over £300! But I suppose if you can afford it then it's a different matter.......
Who cares what others buy its about what makes you happy. I'm happy buying stuff that's value but i'm also happy to buy a few wee treats now and then.....I'm happy so who cares? :rotfl:Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

I normally buy the Tesco 'luxury' in a 12 pack for the price of 9 and stock up when it's on offer. However the last time I went in to stock up, Andrex was on offer and actually cheaper buying 2 x 12 packs of Andrex than a 24 pack of Tesco.
I can't say that I think the Tesco 'luxury' is particularly luxurious, but I'm not keen on the cheaper stuff which I've tried. The Andrex, whilst quite nice, isn't much better and wouldn't be worth paying any extra for in my opinion.Make £2025 in 2025

DD2 loves Lidl's Jaffa cakes and I have to agree they are better than the branded version so she is very happy for me to shop there (she is at the age where she can still get away with eating chocolate biscuits without doubling in size - sigh!) This means I have been able to introduce a lot of Lidl products, whereas I might have had pushback if it had been obviously 'value' packaging from Mr T or Mr S. But then I do think Aldi and Lidl are better quality for the same price as value/smartprice/basicsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

If I'm on the hunt for something specific like nuts I'm usually to be found striding between the Home-Baking aisle and the Ethnic Foods one with my pen and paper to make a comparison before I choose. I'm determined to beat them at their own game on this one
I'm sure I remember reading that some products - nuts being one of them attract VAT if sold packaged as a snack (i.e. in the crisps and nuts aisle) but don't if sold as a cooking ingredient i.e. in the baking aisle/asian food aisle or wherever. worth checking out.0 -

I'm with you Silaqui: I don't understand it either. I buy the cheapest Lidl's recycled paper and if there was another supermarket which sold it cheaper, I'd buy that. Now, the idea of spending good money on coloured, patterned, embossed or SCENTED paper just boggles my mind. I'm glad I've found a kindred spirit as I was convinced that I was in a minority of one0 -

I don't put value items in branded containers, but I do try and put them in nice containers like glass bottles or tins."carpe that diem"0

In a way its a bit like saying you wouldn't buy a tin that was a bit battered in the reduced section I am not bothered if its bashed about a bit as I am going to eat the contents and not the tin(as long as its not 'blown') I am just happy to save a few bob and spend it on someting else far more useful to my happiness like my spring holiday next week and my fortnights summer holiday in August which will be partly paid for by my frugal ways.
I bought some lamb stewing bones from sainsbobs before Christmas reduced to just over 32.00 and last week made a gorgeous stew with lots of veg and herbs in my SC I gave some to my DD and didn't tell her how much it was or what it was ,just said it was lamb casserole. She loved it yet if I had told her it was lamb stew she would have said straight away 'I don't like stew' by telling her it was a special lamb casserole that I had made she thought she was getting something different .I told her afterwards and she couldn't believe how inexpensive it was.I managed to get 5 portions out of my basic lamb stewing bones that some went to her and two portions I kept.
P.S. it was delicious I must admit and I felt quite chuffed at the taste, a bit of psychology goes a long way0
