I bought some Tesco Value teabags for 28p. Never again. The tea was awful (a strange grey colour:eek::rotfl:) and weak even when I used 2 bags. I'm sticking to Gold/Fairtrade or M&S Extra Strong.

I bought some of these too a few months ago and honestly? couldn't tell the difference. I made my neighbour a cup and asked how she thought it was (we always used Typhoo) and she said it was great and asked why I asked. I told they were cheapy teabags, 28p for 80 and she has now switched to using them herself.
They take a bit longer in the cup to be that bit stronger but at the rate me and my neighbour go through cups of tea, its saved us a fortune. lol0 -
I used to buy a lot of tesco value stuff when i was a student. Now that I have the money to buy better stuff the only thing I buy tesco value is bin bags (which I double up otherwise they tear). The rest of it is incredibly poor quality (as much as some people like to think it's the same stuff in a different box - it isn't), but if you like it then good for you.0

You're not. I buy recycled, because I can't bring myself to think of virgin forest being sacrificed for my family to wipe their bums on... second hand paper will do absolutely fine!
Well I must say I prefer to call it recycled - 'second hand' toilet paper does sound a bit bleuughBitterAndTwisted wrote: »I'm with you Silaqui: I don't understand it either. I buy the cheapest Lidl's recycled paper and if there was another supermarket which sold it cheaper, I'd buy that. Now, the idea of spending good money on coloured, patterned, embossed or SCENTED paper just boggles my mind. I'm glad I've found a kindred spirit as I was convinced that I was in a minority of one

My shopping goes down the conveyer belt screaming value!!!!! Another customer once, behind me had a little chuckle, we were both value customers and it looked like the most bland conveyer belt of food either of us had ever seen. :rotfl:
I don't think it matters if you are a value snob, you are saving money and it is all the better when you give value food from a named brand container and the person doesn't know the difference!

It's so interesting to hear other peoples opinions on the matter. Before I went to uni I never really thought about the brands I bought, just took the ones off the shelf that I was in the habit of buying-even if it wasn't the cheapest. However, my time at uni (with guidance from money saving savvy housemates) has helped me to think more about what im buying and whether the more expensive brands are worth it. Four years later im pleased to say I would much prefer to buy value products (that nearly always taste the same) than a more expensive one. The only exception being facial wash and body wash, as I have such sensitive skin that I have to be really careful what I use (and not make too many changes). Oh and some loo roll can be bit rough!!
When im given nice gifts for birthdays/Christmas such as Molton Brown products or Cath Kidston, I do like to decant value things into them because I like the look of the bottle more than anything and not for snobbery reasons.

I buy brands mostly because i believe they are better and i am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. i dont want to scrimp and save on food either.
I often find that people who scrimp on food might smoke or drink or gamble and to me thats not important but having nice meals is important. It makes you feel good giving your body nice food.
I buy some cheaper toiletries from savers i know you can buy products cheaper than the supermarkets. I also use an own brand supermarket washing powder sometimes because it scored highly in the which test. I vote for brands mainly though, you can trust them and they always taste nice.:footie:0 -
Um... I shop at Waitrose [Look - some things are just as cheap as ASDA and Tescos OK! Somethings. Sometimes...]
... I have feeling that you non-brand people are going to tell me I'm cheating.0
