Tesco Value snobbery??

You are lucky you can get Value products, the area we live in is considered to be 'posh' our Tesco stocks very few value products,. I actually spend more in Aldi than I do at Tesco, especially for fruit and veg; reasonable price and good quality.
No way am I decanting stuff into different packaging.......its my choice to buy value, if others don't like it......... tough0 -
I was in Tesco's at the weekend, right at the bottom of the veg aisle near the tills is a small display freezer where they put meat offers.I picked up a pack of 3 chicken breasts for £3.
At the bottom of the meat aisle further up was another fridge of offers. They had the EXACT same chicken breasts, only this time at £4!!,Exact same dates, weights ect, just different price.
A woman came up while I was looking & went to pick a packet, until I told her they were cheaper down at the first freezer!
It may only be a quid diffenance,but a quids a quid &,besides,it paid for the cheese!0 -
Can anyone recommend to me decent containers to decant the following into?
Also handwash - Lidl showergel currently in old Dove dispenser, but would like a nice non-branded one for the bathroom if poss
Boots Essentials handwash pump bottles are plain once you take the label off, frosty opaquehttp://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Cream-Handwash-White-350ml_927331/ HTH

In the Archers on Radio 4 this week they had a posh character having an argument with her posh, spoilt but learning to be thrifty daughter about unknown brands ('darling, you shouldn't scrimp on buying high quality food' etc etc). Thrifty daughter won the day - have the writers been reading MSE?????0

I think it just pays to be savvy when shopping - check the labels. I agree with the posters who say you get what you pay for. Ok quality isn't always commensurate with the price tag but its a pretty good indicator. In an ideal world we would buy fresh and cook from scratch but in the real world it doesn't always happen. There is no way that the quality of the £1 value range lasagne is the same as the £4.99 taste the difference one.
Some value things are ok but many I wouldn't feed to a dog. I recently went to a bbq held by a value queen friend. She brought out value burgers, sausages and other rubbish while proudly telling us all that she had spent less than £20 and bought enough bread, and "meat" to feed the five thousand. How anyone could eat that stuff is beyond me. The actual meat content is minimal, its overly processed and full of chemical additives. I don't mean this to be offensive but if you really can't tell the difference between value stuff and the top ranges then you need to visit a Dr.There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
I can tell the different between a value lasagne and a top range one - but I also know that the top range one is no where near as good as my homemade one - and I'd rather eat made from scratch pasta with good hm tom sauce (made with basic tinned toms)than a box of ready made lasagne if I don't have time to make lasange from scratch. Generally the simpler things are the happier I am to buy them as a basic brand - oats, flour, tinned toms etc.
I won't buy value sasuages or burgers - but then I won't buy burgers when it takes 2 mins to make them from 100% mince!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Hi everyone,
I just stumbled across this thread and I felt I had to reply, since this is close to my heart. I also buy mostly Value/ Aldi products but only things that will make a meal, not processed ready meals (yuk). Personally I think they re a waste of money and have just got nothing good or nutritious in them. I have tried most of them and the few things I don't like are value meat and sausages (too fatty) and ready meals/ cakes. I rather eat less meat but nice tasting and prefer to make my own baked goods. I leave most things in their packaging unless it has to be "tubbed" for freshness.
The one thing I do change is Soap. I really like the blue seabreeze mineral bubblebath (55p a litre) and @decant' it into 2 soap pump dispensers, 2 showergelbottles and I can do that at least twice, it's much cheaper than buying refills or value soap. it works out at 7p a bottle.
apart from that........ not really bothered what the pack looks like. I am fortunate enough to be a good cook and can make great things from left overs and next to nothing for hardly any money!!
And proud of it too.
My house is always nice and clean so are me and the kids , so why care whats on the pack? All you pay extra for is the adverts/ brainwashing.
add that to your Tv licence!! good reason not to watch tv he he0 -
ETA; agree with the poster above about cheap washing up liquids; that Easy brand is utterly useless. But I get Cussons Morning Fresh brand at 2 x 450 ml bottles for £1 from the poundstores and the quality is excellent. It is also widely available in 750 ml bottles for about 79-89p.
Ditto the Easy washing up liquid thing...useless! You have to use 3 times as much as you would with fairy, so the saving you make is completely pointless!:rotfl:Every act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️
