OH used to very very good. Years ago he bought me a beautiful dressing gown from Marks and a lovely gold necklace.

Last year, two hideous tops from Debenhams sale.

  • some men dont have the 'gift buying' mindset so they play safe and get whatever you have been talking about that you need. They dont want to get it wrong, bless them :). Mine didn't 'do' Christmas much before he met me I dont think, so he doesn't have a clue about buying presents and leaves it all to me. ( I did tell him I draw the line at buying my own Valentines Day present!)

We've evolved a system that works though. We get something for the house for us both, and then I get him some little things to unwrap on Christmas Day and he gets me something he thinks I'll like. I got a replacement wedding ring last year, this year I'm hoping he'll replace my engagement ring which is now so worn its unwearable. But I'm not counting on it. If he remembers to get me something without me hinting too hard, I will be happy :).

Oh I forgot the subject of the topic. Birthdays. Now thats a different story. He got me a £20 top up voucher one year, because I needed one ;).

I honestly think it's a nice present - unless you've specifically told him you want something different, he's decided to buy you something you have mentioned you wanted on several occasions and that's very thoughtful IMO.

I am terrible at buying gifts (I am female) and tell people they'll get a voucher or money if they don't specify what they want. I'm the same with receiving gifts - terribly picky and probably won't enjoy it unless I have asked for it, I'd never just hint at something. However I once got a ladle spoon and slotted spatula for Christmas, something my OH saw that I always said I needed in the kitchen but didn't think to ask. I was very chuffed!

    SLOW COOKER!!!!!

Its my 30th tomorrow and I've been with my partner for 13 years. We have 2 kids. He took my oldest out the other day to get me a present and I've just found the receipt.

He has bought me a box of milk tray from the kids and a SLOW COOKER!!!!!

Yes I wanted one, but not for my bl**ody birthday!!!!!!

Thing is the box doesn't look big enough for anything other than a single person one!!!!

What would you have wanted? Can you not take it back although you did want one (but not for your birthday) and get what it was you wanted which is...:)

When my Dad was a boy, his group of friends had an agreement that they'd buy their respective dads whatever hand tool the group needed to be able to borrow and which was currently lacking from any dad's tool kit.
  • I actually think that he's actually thought about it and tried and made an effort to get you something he thinks you would like. If I was you, I'd say thanks and be grateful. It's the thought that counts, and he sounds like he's put thought into it.

My OH gave me 20 sacks of garden compost for my xx birthday! Did I ask for that? I did not! Were they for MY garden? They were not! They were for OUR garden!
