I'll never forget about 10 years ago when my now ex bought me a slender tone for my birthday. Apparently this was the only way I was going to get toned abs as I'm lazy  as I said.....he's my ex :rotfl:
This year, for his birthday, my OH asked for something practical....he wanted a chainsaw, which is what he got and it's the happiest I've seen him in some time (should I be worried lol?!)0 -
Oh and I don't mind practical presents, this year for xmas I've asked for an apron and a spice rack

We dont buy each other gifts , if we want /need anything we buy it , don't see the point of buying stuff just because it's a certain dayVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

Reminds me of the year my father bought my Mum new hiking boots. With extra laces. And some walking socks.
It's not that she didn't want/need them it's just that, well...
That must have been 40 years ago - and she still brings it up from time to time.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Haha, OP that made me laugh. We got gifted a slow cooker by the in-laws one Christmas. They'd recently discovered the miracle that is preparing dinner in the morning and having it ready by the time you got home from work. They bought one for EVERYONE. I had a hard time keeping it together when we were sat in their living room opening gifts on Boxing Day, "Oh... another slow cooker." Hahaha!0

How did it go, OP? Any surprises?0

Not partners but parents gifts for my birthday just gone (they should know better) We had originally agreed i am to old for gifts now but they then changed their minds and advised they just wanted to get me a little prezzie
From my father:
A very very large china doll clown that sits on a swing - i have hated dolls from a young age, even as a small child i had a stuffed toy as i didn't like anything with a 'face' - and i am not a fan of clowns either! why? for the love of all things, why? :rotfl: This is nothing i would ever like, never professed to like does not match me or my lifestyle in any way shape or form. apparently its very expensive too.. the blinking thing gives me the heebegeebies big style.
From my mother:
Some nasty, cheezy small cups in garish colours with 'im awesome' and 'check me out i am the best' written on them. Nether sentiments i hold too. Again, my mother knows we have just downsized and only the day before she bought the darned things did i mention that i did not have a single spare spot of space in the kitchen... no a single jot.
I am so easy to buy for, i love anything in lush and anything from yankee candle and both you can cater for small budgets to big ones... i adore both but cant afford them as regular treats.
When i casually asked why they had not gone for the above they said.... but you always ask for them so we wanted to get you something different!
I always ask for them because that's what i want....arrgghhPlease note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -

Sometimes we get what we want, sometimes we get what we need, and sometimes we just get what we get;).................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I've had a slow cooker as a birthday present.... A few years later I got some car tyres for my birthday........ At least I still have the slow cooker.0
