Actually the thread has got me thinking...I could do with a new ironing board cover....I must add that to my christmas wish list...
Oh, no! An ironing board cover is completely inappropriate for Christmas. It's more of a birthday present.
You should be upping the stakes and considering something like a Dyson for Christmas.;):dance:We're gonna be alright, dancin' on a Saturday night:dance:0 -

I think this is a very sexist attitude
*Some* men may have no clue what to buy as a gift, many do perfectly well!
I'm afraid that I come from a family where the females don't do frilly, frivolous stuff and a gift of a slow cooker would go down very well (assuming they wanted one & didn't already own one!).0 -
Last Christmas I got a karcher window vac. To be fair I did ask for and was made up
I know it doesn't help though and I would of been a bit miffed if I'd got one without asking. Just let him know it's not what you want, take it back and buy yourself something else.Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -

I asked for it for my birthday last year....so clearly me husband deemed it inappropriate as a birthday present...so thats why I'm chancing it as a christmas gift...

I got a spirit level one year lol (was amongst other things, so he got away with it!).
Maybe you could fake a story and say OMG you'll never guess what [INSERT NAME] was given for her 30th birthday...?' then follow it up with something equally as 'housey'. Maybe he'll take the hint. If not, you could add something like 'every bloke must surely know by now (especially if they've watched Love Actually) that every woman wants something they want, not something they need'.
I do think it goes both ways and blokes often get presents like gardening or decorating tools. My mum bought my ex a shiny spade once. I'm not sure I'd have been as impressed if his mum had bought me say an ironing board.

Just a thought, if any of my family read this and recognise me I'd still like the Jam thermometer I dropped heavy hints about last year!0

I saw years of my mother receiving household items for Christmas and birthday and vowed I would never receive a household good for a present.
So I have told everyone I know that a gift has to be a treat and not a household object0 -
my dad one year took me to but a birthday/xmas for my mum. Not sure which.
Anyway I was to young to get it and we bought her a trifle bowl and serving dishes.
I am so ashamed of that. It only dawned on me as an adult
And never do that now.
