Just got back from Curves and feeling quite saintly because it was so tempting not to go - the weather is awful; dark, gloomy and wet and I've got the whole house to myself with loads of 'projects' lined up but I didn't join Curves to talk myself out of it and I emerged cream-crackered but feeling a real buzz! I was glad I went. My next visit will be Saturday morning. I've just made a coffee and will spend half an hour relaxing on here then have some lunch. I have a yearning for Bovril - must be the weather!

HARDUPHESTER - You sound really industrious and determined with your sewing! I have some mending that needs doing so I'll send it to you!
DOGROSE - I always feel jet-lagged when we've only been on the ferry! It always takes me ages to feel 'normal' again. It's the worst part of coming home for me.
DONNYGAL - not sure when you're going away but have a brilliant time!
JACKIEO - thinking of you today.

Well, off to do something - don't know what yet!

We haven't heard from Amie, Queenie or Smoky lately - hope they're all OK.

  • hello All :hello:

I wonder if Queenie is absent due to her dental challenges - have myself been dealing with a dental situation for two weeks so far, it has felt far longer! - and it looks as if I'll be paying the dentist another visit tomorrow - long story cut short - nerve damaged when old filling drilled  - 5 days on antibiotics, then tooth treated with steroid dressing, didn't work  , and finally yesterday root treatment commenced! Still very sore today..... feel like the original bear with sore head! tried Nurofen, co-codamol and paracetamol for pain relief (not all at once!) but still suffering!! I know I'll look back on this and see the funny side of it, but it's sore at the mo!

I know a few on this board have been dealing with things dental recently - hope you're improving. If not, keep going back! It's a bit too close to the brain to be ignored!!

Today is a quiet day and I'll occupy myself with some tidying up and hoovering and ironing. Good way to keep warm - it's quite cool at present.

I have a lamb shank and various veg for my meal tonight. beans on toast for lunch - only I've no bread, so it will be oatcakes on the side. Yogurt for pud.

Hugs to all who need them, specially the poorlies.

    Afternoon
I'm just taking a break from my sewing & having a cuppa. So I thought I'd just share this with you.
I was talking to DD yesterday about names for the new baby when it arrives, she told me one of the girls she works with is expecting a baby girl soon, she has decided to call her Cognac!!! When they tried to explain to her that Cognac was a drink, she didn't believe them as she'd never heard of it! Oh well I suppose it's no worse than Chardonnay & we have 2 of those where I live.
    On with the sewing.

    Afternoon Every1!

Been up for ages! Even slept on sofa from 3:30 am until OH got up at 5 - or tried to, but PKitty kept trying to suckle my finger and then when he finally started sleeping Bailey-cat wanted letting out. Knackered!

Well for some reason we seem to have had a low pressure of water available all this morning. I've been good though - just sink washed me, and the pots from yesterday, and stocked a little more water up for drinking. Not sure how long this is going on for, and I bet a load of people still haven't got water. We are getting regular water bottle/bowser deliveries though - and there are now port-a-loos in the local car park, so we should be alright for a while. It's quite interesting realising how much we take water for granted. Wanted to paint walls but that would mean cleaning the brushes out so that's off. And have to think of other one-pot meals so don't create too much washing. Wish we'd flylady'd properly last week - we might have cleaned the oven. It's far too smoky to use at the moment.

Very strange to see how people panic buy! Apparently there was a to-do over the last cauliflower in the local shop! It's not like we can't get out like some people.

A friend emailed this am to come round for coffee. They've decamped their kids to relatives for the water-loss duration and her house was too quiet! Gave me a good reason to zip round the house with the hoover and clean up. That's what I need - good motivation. Had a good old natter and PKitty found another lap to cuddle!

Drizzle drizzle means hard to do anything outside. Amazingly seems to be enough to be unpleasant but not enough to catch for toilet flushing! Might actually end up .... shhh..... mending clothes or decluttering!

Put some mags outside the door on the weekend with a note offering them for free as I hate to have good mags just wasted by going to the recycle straight away. Also asked on the note that if anyone had any current interior mags I'd appreciate having them. Lady rang doorbell today and gave me about 10! Aren't people nice? I promised to Sue Ryder them for her when I'm done!

Well better get on with one of my most hated jobs of the year - getting my car insurance! aargh.

(((hugs))) to all ailing and going through stress and hard times. Thinking of you!

Someone told me that in France it is illegal to call your child a 'stupid' name as it is classed as some form of child abuse  . So the French get some things right ;)

As to not knowing what cognac is  . and THEN naming your child ..........

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!M&S ON-LINE "SALE" IS A SHAMBLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really believed that M&S was well organised and valued its customers, what a let down!
Having waited for my first ever on-line order for the past 2 days I was more than a little fed up to get a bland e-mail midday telling me that 'a few' of my items were out of stock.

Had to log onto M&S site to find:
    1. the 3 most wanted items had been removed
    2. delivery date had changed drastically (Monday wd be the earliest - I will be in Luxor)
    3. order now in 3 parcels, last delivery almost middle of August!!

When I phoned up, the voice on the other end of the line REFUSED to speak to me because I was not my husband, even though we have a joint credit card and the M&S system has no facility for joint accounts. He was so unpleasant - it must have been pretty obvious that the order was for a woman!!

Husband had to stop working to phone M&S: In short he cancelled the order.

After a few well chosen words expressing his chagrin with their pathetic CSA he was offered 10% of the order as a gesture... this was quickly upped to £25 before he could do more than splutter. The nice man on the phone pretended to be surprised and claimed that they must have had a problem with their system. Thanks to the 'shop but Don't drop' board I had found out that their system is totally up the creek !

First and last time I will order from M&S on-line. £25 voucher will be nice, but I needed my new drawers to go on holiday!!!

Well Brandy's an actual name... certainly is in America anyway! ;) Still

Well, you know what I said about not spending today? Well I sort of went for a little lunchtime walk with two girls from work, and we sort of got drawn inexorably into the Next sale... and my credit card slipped :D

Still, I did quite well - got 3 pairs of trousers (2 casual, 1 for office wear), 2 pairs of good classic office-wear shoes, and a pale pink crossover jumper. Now the only things I still need in this year's sales are: a couple of basic tops that can be worn with anything (am thinking along the lines of plain V-neck Gap T-shirts) and at least one all-purpose smartish fitted cardigan. Oh and a new swimming cossie and sports bra, but I'll need to go to Bravissimo for those, and my bank balance is not going to thank me AT ALL.

Also took my broken shoe into Jones (where I bought them) and asked if it was fixable. The shop assistant wasn't sure, but they are going to send them away tomorrow and call me with a quote for mending (if possible) early next week.

    Right, back to work...

I went to looks at irons, to see how much a cheap one would be & got one for £4.39. What a bargain, it will save me running up & down stairs & do as a spare.
