Yorkshire & Clydesdale Banks offering £150 for switching

Took the advice of people here and walked into Yorkshire Bank branch today. Didn't need to book an appointment and the guy squeezed my account opening in between his two appointments. The whole process took maximum of 20 mins and I was given my acc number and sort code plus Internet banking registration details. Switch date is next week Friday.
Was also given a lovely pack which I seriously doubt I would be reading.
If you can help it, save yourself the hassle of the call centre confused and longwinded process and do a face to face appointment.
So I just got a call from Yorkshire Bank to say that they would be closing my account due to background mismatch. I gave them all my correct details. I am not sure where the mismatch came from. However, I suspect that it may be from my address because I remember that when my account was being opened, I was asked how long I had been at my current address and I told the advisor March 2014. He did not ask me to provide any previous addresses which I found a bit odd. Maybe he put in the wrong duration which would have caused the flag as he was in a hurry. Not sure what to do now. They have given me till Saturday to come and withdraw the amount I have deposited.£47605.33 outstanding in C.C (£8000 Interest free till January 2025)0 -

I wouldn't take what they say at face value - they do seem remarkably prone to fouling things up. You might want to go back to them and ask them to double check the position.
When my wife applied they made a complete pig's ear of the whole process and wanted all sorts of further checks done. Passport had to be taken to local branch (who knew nothing about it, and had no idea what to do with it) and even then it proved to be insufficient evidence of whatever it was they were looking for.
She felt she was being accused of some kind of fraud - until it turned out it was all down to their telephone operatives keying in the wrong information.
This really is a shambolic bank - they haven't a clue what they're doing. All the Australian owners want to do is build up the numbers of account holders (using the £150 as a bribe) so that they can sell off their entire Clydesdale Bank operation.
From the Telegraph two days ago:
The boss of Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks has announced he will leave after more than two decades, as its Australian owners plan to exit the UK.
National Australia Bank said on Tuesday that David Thorburn will leave the company, having steered its UK arm through a turnaround that prepares it for a float.
NAB and its new chief executive are keen to offload Clydesdale and Yorkshire, which has struggled compared to its counterparts in Australia and New Zealand.
The company is widely expected to float the business, which has been dragged down by the PPI mis-selling scandal and the weak UK economy. In October, NAB issued a profits warning amid a £670m charge related to PPI compensation at the UK business.

Thanks a lot Doc N. I have put in a complaint with their complaints department who promised to resolve this by tomorrow. *fingers crossed*£47605.33 outstanding in C.C (£8000 Interest free till January 2025)0 -

The customer mandate (which I am required to sign and return) states 'I consent to you contacting my employer to verify that my salary will be mandated to the accounts'. This is the first I have heard of this requirement!
Nowhere on their website nor in the telephone conversation I had with a Yorkshire Bank employee to open the account was there any suggestion that my salary had to be paid into my new account. The qualifying criteria for the account listed on the Yorkshire Bank website states only 'Minimum monthly credit of £1000 required (excluding internal transfers)'.
I take no issue with Yorkshire Bank contacting my employer to verify the accuracy of the details I provided regarding my employer, job title, salary or duration of employment; the information I gave is all accurate.
I also intend to fund the account with £1000 per month, just as I funded the account I am switching away from. However, my salary was not paid into the account am switching from, and I do not wish for it to be paid into my new Yorkshire Bank account.
Has anybody had their account application to Yorkshire or Clydesdale banks scuppered on the basis of a check made on the destination of their salary?
Just cross-posting a related issue. It relates specifically to opening an account with the Yorkshire rather to switching but, obviously, if you switch then you are also opening an account (I would have linked to the thread but apparently I am not allowed despite registering here eight months ago).0 -

The address is the Direct Banking, Timor House (I think?), Clydebank Business Park address off the letter, yes.
The freepost licence number on the pre-paid envelopes and the one they told me to use when they didn't send one is the following if you want to save on a stamp (I can confirm mine got there):

The branch application I did went like clockwork! Fastest of the lot to get up running/switched.0 -

I didn't get an SAE for my first account, so took the paperwork to branch and they kindly scanned/emailed it to Head Office after opening me another account (well it would be rude not to!).

They all go to their Clydebank Direct Banking address up in Scotland. The postcodes are the same. The only difference between the Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank prepaid envelopes are that Yorkshire Bank says 'Yorkshire' and Clydesdale Bank says 'Clydesdale' before Direct Banking at the top of the address.
How many accounts have you managed to open between Yorkshire/Clydesdale (excluding the Current Account Direct used for 4% interest)?0 -
