Need to call YB then, as your post suggests and letter suggests.

Is it likely that its because its open for less than a month? Shall I say it just wasn't the right account for me if they ask? then i saw the incentive with Yorkshire bank and decided to switch?
transferring a payment to external acc is fine. and also between TSB accounts is fine.

Have you successfully transferred money into or out of the account you tried to switch?

If you have then it seems odd that the switch hasn't gone through. As suggested by others, contact YB. You don't need to justify why you want to switch the account - it's your right to switch the account at any time once it's opened as long as it's not blocked.
  • Its absolutely fine at TSB end, no problems with transactions between external accounts.

Phoned YB today and they said they will contact me, they haven't yet found out why there is a problem, I think she couldn't get through to the YB switching team. I got the number from her but they were engaged, advisors busy.

It is odd. All letters from TSB and YB say correct name and address which was the first thing the YB customer service asked to confirm.

I await a call from YB after they have investigated.
  • if i switch to yorkshire bank and get the £150, how long do i need to keep current account with them?
how long do i need to keep this account to don't pay back the £150?
    thanks

Once you have been paid the £150 you can close the account but better still switch to another provider and get another switch bonus!
  • YB phoned me back today and said they haven't received the paper switch application, you know all those sheets, that say which account u want switching from and to.

I don't understand this because how do they know my TSB details? It was TSB that wrote to me saying the switch could not proceed, contact YB.

I didn't argue on the phone or challenge. She will send me forms to fill in again and hopefully this time they will be processed.

Do you think its worth complaining yet? The switching process is meant to be smooth.
  • Hi all, am a keen follower of MSE for several years and a newbie on this forum, therefore please excuse me if this issue re: Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks has been covered before. However for all those considering a move to either bank, or those applying for a credit card, may I offer a cautionary note?

As many posters here have already established, you can only apply for certain accounts either over the phone or in branch. Credit cards can be applied for online - I successfully applied for one myself and am using it and benefiting from 0% interest on purchases. All good so far.

However, a major shortcoming (for the credit card at least) is using ATM's for basic functions such as balance enquiries and resetting/changing Pins - this is only permitted at Clydesdale or Yorkshire bank branches - a hopeless situation if you live hundreds of miles from your nearest branch. I'm not aware whether this also applies to debit cards associated to their current accounts, but certainly worth checking before you commit to switching!

Hi, My sister has applied for C/A Plus with YB yesterday. It was accepted she asked for £100 overdraft aswel. She is a house-person and in receipt of benefits. The adviser did not ask to send in evidence of income etc.

I think I did see a post on MSE that if overdraft is requested YB will ask for proof of income. Cannot find the post now.

For people who applied for an overdraft - did they request proof of income?

    Thanks

Hi all, who done the current account switch!

One thing about pay-in's puzzles me: does the initial money transferred by bank on switch day and, also, does the redirected pay-in (for ex. wages) count towards required minimum deposit from external sources (for interest and/or bonuses)? Especially, for the first month (anniversary date).

I've just switched my current account from RBS Select to Clydesdale Direct.

Was Googling around for answers, but nothing to reassure me.

Thanks in advance for any help and advise!
  • Letters received from both YB and TSB acknowledging switch. So panic over.
  • Seeking advice to resolve this little problem please.... My wife has recently suffered a mild stroke and as a result, is unable to speak without great difficulty. We wish to open a current account with either YBS or clydesdale bank in the sole name of my wife. the intention being to switch to the account once opened and gain the incentive. Of course this account can only be opened via the phone or in branch. in branch is out of the question because of location and my wife's condition. She is fully compus mentus in all other respects apart from speech difficulty.
Originally I was advise that if she gave her permission verbally on the phone for me to deal with the application, that would be ok. Now I'm told that is not so. Ido not wish to go down the route of obtaining Power of Attorney on her behalf. Neither bank has the facility of sending out application forms for completion!
Any advice or comments gratefully received.
