bad neighbours threatening my health

  • Ok so the neighbours have just started lighting up weed. I'm still keeping my diary, it's the 4th time this week and they will probably smoke right through the night.

I don't want to ring 101 just yet as there's no one about because of the rain and they will know it's me who has reported them. So I am going to call the LA tomorrow. I looked though the handbook they gave us when we moved in and it says using drugs is a breach of tenancy agreement so when I ring up I plan to quote this, I've been looking on other websites about anonymous reporting and found that the LA could say a plain clothes neighbourhood officer could smell it or someone in the street reported it so it could never be pinpointed to a particular person.

Hope you get it sorted 1 way or other.
  • Hi everyone and happy new year!

Sorry to drag this up, but after a nice Christmas away my husband has agreed I can indeed move away! Our circumstances will be extraordinary but I'm very happy about this! I was hoping to move into a flat in my friends property but this might not be happening anymore, I'll find out soon enough.

My only concern now is schools, my name will still be on the tendency here unless I looked into getting it removed, so would this jeopardise my chances in getting into primary schools? Once they see I have two address? I've read somewhere maybe in the paper this is breaking the law? Maybe I'm wrong but it's got me anxious.
I would have all my council tax, bills etc at my new address, but a name in a council tenency agreement elsewhere. Is this ok? Or should I look into removing my name. I don't want to look like a fraud or have a criminal record, almost makes me not want to move.

Sweetheart, if you have a tenancy with your name one and you pay rent and live there, then you are perfectly entitled to send you children to school in that new catchment area. Even if they wanted proof of where you lived, you can provide it. There is no rule against owning or even renting two houses. Where you actually live is the important thing.

You also need to find an understanding GP who can refer you for therapy. Perhaps there will be one near the new house. Medication is a help, not a fix. You can rebuild your life, have faith in yourself :o

    Thanks for your lovely reply,
I've been reading that having two properties whilst school admissions are looking you up can lead to an investigation but if they did that to me hopefully I can just give my proof of address. I think they do it because I read about people lying on admissions forms on mumsnet.

Sometimes my anxieties get carried away and I am still worried but like you say I can prove it and am not lying, I'm just worried that I will come across this way and they will think I moved just to be in a catchment area when in reality I'm moving because my mental health is in decline.

I will be going back tomy doctor soon as my sleep meds are no longer working. She did say she doesn't think I need a therapist.

Not read the whole thread, but are you sure you're allowed to live somewhere else whilst renting a council property? I thought there were rules against this to ensure empty properties can be reallocated.
  • I'd wait until you smell the drugs being smoked, then call the police and say you can smell drugs and people keep going in and out at all hours. Police will watch them and gather evidence then arrest them, then social services will get involved and hopefully give them and their children support to become better people

Hi, I live with my husband so is a joint tenancy. One person can leave a joint tenancy but is still responsible for rent. There is something called tenancy assignment where you can 'give up' your side of the tenancy, but only if benefits are involved all of this will be a problem like under occupying or bedroom tax. As he is still paying the rent and has a secure tenancy there's no problem unless he claimed benefits.

Hi, I've kept a diary of the drugs and they've been smoking everyday since 28th the council don't seem to do much and I've been told on this thread to contact the police as will make more trouble for myself.

You won't be making more trouble for yourself.

Do people think the police just turn up at the offending residence and explain that mrs so and so at number x dobbed them in :rotfl:

Report them to the police, you might not be the only one who has done, you may be adding to their evidence.

Oh and also, best not to mention it to anyone as everything could disappear leaving nothing for the police.
