Feeling like I'm a terrible parent!

I'm a regular poster, but I've adopted a new user name because I really don't want to be recognised.
I suppose I just want to vent how bad I'm feeling...I've had a terrible few weeks, trying to sort out a family crisis, starting a new job amongst quite a lot of other things going on, but probably that's still no excuse for what's happened today!:A
This morning the kids ( and me) were all running late, there was lots of shouting, running about and eventually getting in the car and making it to school by the skin of their teeth, so all was good. Well, until about twenty minutes ago, it was then that it suddenly dawned on me as I'm sat here with a cup of tea in hand that I've sent the little darlings into school in uniform on non-school uniform day!!! To say I feel like the worst mother in the world doesn't even come close, I've never forgotten before, they're both in secondary school so I know they'll be singled out but I also know they'll kill me if I go up the school now.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's done ( or not done) this?!

If they're in secondary school they're more than old enough to sort their own clothes out.0

If they're in secondary school they should be more than aware that they should be in non-uniform.
All through secondary school (age 11-15) I was more than capable of dressing myself and knowing when it was non-uniform day, without my mum's assistance.
Relax, it's going to be fine.

Don't think I've done that -but I have sent my kids to school and gone to work on a day the school was closed (a polling day). Seems funny now but not funny that day- pretty hellish actually!
We're all terrible parents. Just take comfort that no one gets it 100% right (and those who pretend to be perfect are usually more terrible!)
Hope that makes you feel better! x0 -
It will teach them a valuable life lesson; how to dress themselves!
It seems unlikely that they would all forget that it was non-uniform day though, are you sure you haven't got the wrong day?0 -

No, it is today, my DS went non uniform, secondary school, constantly reminding me to give him the money and lots of talk about what he was going to wear:D
You have sent them in uniform, fair enough but surely they must have known/remembered? It can't be said that you are a bad parent, no, we all do things like that....I once sent my youngest to school on a day early to school as that day was teacher training day, poor soul came home...'mum the school is closed, it does not open until tomorrow':rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Children in Need is today, right? Sounds right, my cousins have gone to school dressed as superheroes - if that was the case with the OP I would say they are alter egosOur Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

No you're not the only one to have done that
Obviously your kids weren't that bothered about getting dressed up though, or there's no way they'd have forgotten it too.0 -
I doubt they both forgot too, maybe they're just not too bothered - surely they'd have seen children wearing plain clothes before they arrived at school.0

Thank you all so much for your replies.
I know they should take responsibility for themselves, I did when I was their ages, but I suppose it's more that I've always been the one to remember everything and be organised. I suppose this will now be a bit of a life lesson for them, and me, that they need to take control of their own lives a bit more :-)0 -
My year 11 daughter is convinced I'm the worst possible parent. You wouldn't believe what she blames me for. Her spots, her bad hair days, her funny shaped eyebrows, running out of ink cartridges, asking her too many questions, not being interested enough, getting her up too early, letting her sleep in too late. Boy trouble, friend trouble, being tired, not being able to sleep, wrong mouthwash, bananas in general, cheap yogurt, over frozen ice cream.
I could go on but I was in need of a paragraph break.
Yes you will be blamed, but its not your fault.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0
