They even tried to get me to ring the internet company to 'check we are getting the right speed' because the game was taking sooo long (in their world probably around 3 minutes:rotfl:)

Not even going to mention my latest failure as I'd be ripped to shreds (partially deserved but not in the mood to receive a bashing)

But if that the worse thing you've done to your kids then pat yourself on the back and quit worrying. They'll survive x

I thought they were 5 or 6 but in secondary school? Really? As a full time mum my kids have long learnt it is their responsibility to remember such things. My response to the event would be so different! Not only I would feel no guilt but would quite annoyed that neither of them had remembered :)

Yes, certainly at secondary school age they should be dressing themselves and taking themselves to school. And if they're late they get punished for it, like we all did. Most kids don't have the luxury of being driven from door to door - they have to get the bus.

It is a bit odd that both kids forgot it's no-uniform day, too?

I agree with everything you're saying, they are now walking themselves home from school ( to their disgust) as I think they should, I drive them to school only because most days it's on my way to work, so no big deal. This morning however I didn't have work, and we were running late as I said, hence I think, none of us remembering the lack of uniform day :rotfl:

A lot of the replies on here have really made me laugh though, so thanks :)

My best friend sent her 3 year old to nursery in uniform on their last non-uniform day - it was Spanish day or French day, some European country day - and she only realised as she walked out of the nursery gates to see other children turning up in costume.

She spent the whole day close to tears and feeling like she was a bad mum.

None of the other children commented to her son about him being in uniform, he didn't seem to notice (he certainly never said anything to mum) that he was the only one not in costume and wasn't bothered in the slightest!

At 11years old+ they're old enough to remember these things themselves.

We're all bad parents so don't worry :D

DS woke up late and missed his bus to school this morning....of course I got the blame. I tell him EVERY night to set his alarm and get up in time. He didn't take his tie as he couldn't find it and what have I done with it blah blah blah! WTH I didn't take your tie and get to school!
He's 15 and old enough to sort out his own stuff out....they have to learn.

I apologised to my mum a couple of years ago for being a terrible teenage daughter....oh I was horrible.

As a parent I try my best....that's all we can do

My LO is still in primary and is expected to sort out her own bag, clothes etc. However, I always take a sneaky peak and offer a gentle reminder if she has forgotten anything. They need to take responsibility for themselves sometime!

Use it as a life lesson.......

Mine-the weather, having to use an umbrella because it is raining, the game not downloading fast enough, the internet, the hair products not making their hair look like they think it should, going on FB solely to 'stalk them', buying the wrong bread, having mud on his favourite blue shoes, there not being enough crisps in their packets, their rooms being too hot/too cold etc:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Not had over frozen ice cream yet:rotfl:

Ha Ha not enough crisps in packet!

Ohhhhhh the over frozen ice cream. Having to wait a little until it softens which knocks her whole evening out of sync. Helpfully, her uncle (my brother) sent her a text advising her to put it in the microwave like he used to (odd family ours).

She sends my husband texts asking if he can pop into the supermarket on the way home to get her x, y or z. Stupidly he does it. He knows all about hair products to make your hair curly, straight, less frizzy, glossy, and "just stepped off the beach" or something similar.

Having said that, sometimes she looks like she's in fancy dress even when there is no charity event, walking around in heels that make her look like a foal trying to stand for the first time. :D

PS this is great therapy :rotfl: thanks OP. hope the kids are gentle with you.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door
  • Listen, don't worry about it - this is something that would stress me out too.
