Feeling like I'm a terrible parent!

I'm mean.
In my case when they come home moaning tonight that they were sent in in the wrong clothes, they'd get "Well perhaps in future you'll take responsibility for yourselves. At gone 11 years old you should be able to select the right clothes, put them on and be ready for school on time to leave without me having to scream and shout at you. As you didn't notice either and you're at school all the time don't blame me for not acting as your personal assistant - now get on with emptying the dishwasher and put the rubbish out!"Adventure before Dementia!0 -
It's all part of taking responsibility and growing up if they were 5 or 6 it's more your place to help them plan and execute their costume but 11 plus they are old enough to know what they need. If you start them young taking responsibility for what they need (with appropriate checks ) it makes for a stress free school run.0

If they're the only ones in school uniform today they've only themselves to blame!!Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Of all the things you could have forgotten, that's way down the list of what is important. My 8YO knows when it's non-uniform day and reminds (aka nags!) me about it, so if secondary children can't remember, that's largely their lookout, especially when you have more than one.
Seems like being a mum is about feeling guilty and being in the wrong!

If the worst thing you have done to your children in their lives so far is sending them to school in uniform over their own clothes.......well, your children should be very grateful to have such a well rounded and patient mum!

I would be like you and feel guilty, but I bet they are not the only kids! Some won't want to go in non-uniform.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Thank you all so much for your replies.
I know they should take responsibility for themselves, I did when I was their ages, but I suppose it's more that I've always been the one to remember everything and be organised. I suppose this will now be a bit of a life lesson for them, and me, that they need to take control of their own lives a bit more :-)
Believe me, they need to learn. I'm contemplating how I'm going to teach DD life skills before and if she goes to uni. I have three years and wish I had done it sooner. If you're not careful you will fall into "helicopter parenting" and before you know it you have a zombie teen .Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
My year 11 daughter is convinced I'm the worst possible parent. You wouldn't believe what she blames me for. Her spots, her bad hair days, her funny shaped eyebrows, running out of ink cartridges, asking her too many questions, not being interested enough, getting her up too early, letting her sleep in too late. Boy trouble, friend trouble, being tired, not being able to sleep, wrong mouthwash, bananas in general, cheap yogurt, over frozen ice cream.
I could go on but I was in need of a paragraph break.
Yes you will be blamed, but its not your fault.
Mine-the weather, having to use an umbrella because it is raining, the game not downloading fast enough, the internet, the hair products not making their hair look like they think it should, going on FB solely to 'stalk them', buying the wrong bread, having mud on his favourite blue shoes, there not being enough crisps in their packets, their rooms being too hot/too cold etc:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Not had over frozen ice cream yet:rotfl:0 -
