About time - action by Ofgem to get these companies to sort themselves out is well overdue.

Pathetic excuses about changing/upgrading systems are unacceptable - if they can't cope with the customer's that they've got then they shouldn't be allowed to take on any more until they can.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

They aren't actually allowed to refuse a customer though are they? (correct me if I'm wrong here)

The only way they could reduce joining customers would be to make their tariffs uncompetitive, something else they would likely get a slap on the wrist for!

EDIT: I agree with you by the way, it just doesn't look like Ofgem make it easy for them!

I wonder if it's the same system Npower use?
  • Appalling company. I hope it cures the problem. I don't understand how a £200 million computer system is not thoroughly tested or run in parallel with the existing system before going live.

Back in April 2013 I signed up to Scottish Power’s Early Bird Fixed Price April 2015 offer only to find out some time later when my direct debits increased that I had been placed on their Standard Gas &Electricity, after contacting them and Scottish Power checking their records I was told that Scottish Power was changing over to a new computer system at that time and for some reason my account defaulted on to their dearest tariffs (Standard)

Their promised me that all my bills would be recalculated that was back in July 2014. After numerous phone calls I am still no further forward so I have now put it in the hands of the Ombudsman.

I have been a Scottish Power customer for years but I thing it’s time to change.
  • I left Scottish Power almost a year ago and still haven't had a correct final bill and refund of the credit that they owe me.

I complained to the Ombudsman 9 months ago. They took a REALLY hard line with Scottish Power. This is the latest: :rotfl:

"You are dissatisfied that Scottish Power to date has not provided an amended final bill. ... We are unable to obligate the company to do this due to the current limitations of the billing system. Additionally due to the number of customers affected by this matter, it is not feasible for us to recommend manual recalculations. Therefore we can only recommend that the company keeps you informed of the progress of the billing of the account and issues a recalculated bill once the issue is resolved. Unfortunately there is no timescale for this at present".

I have just left Scottish Power and EON. EON has closed my account and repaid all overpayments in 7 days. Scottish Power recommend keeping my direct debit going and will close the account in 8 weeks or so. The experiences above do not bode well!
Now a week later I am worried. They have removed my online account but are still taking DD. Again EON keep your account available for 12months. I will have to phone!
  • I have got a complaint ongoing with Scottish Power at the moment. I have been trying for weeks to get a response, if you call you are on hold forever and then it hangs up, and if you prefer to deal in writing they just ignore all emails.

Even emailing the chief executive's office, they say they will reply, then still ignore. Then, eventually, they get back to you weeks later, with a standard email ignoring everything you have said. Our heating isn't working (due to issues with their meter timeclock)...they have absolutely no interest in customer service, whatsoever. They just ignore, ignore, ignore.

Another toothless threat from OFGEM in the guise of actually doing something useful
