Bigoted "friend"

Hi

I'm not sure if this in the right place, but I just need to rant.

I have a "friend" (more an aquaintance/friend of a friend) on Facebook who is really starting to get on my nerves. I know, before anyone says so, I could just delete her. However, some of the rubbish she spouts scares me and I often find myself rising to it and arguing with her. The worse part is a lot of her friends agree with the carp she writes!

She's always ranting on about some minority/immigrants that have wronged her and how the country is being ruined (you know the type of stuff that bigots like to moan about without any real evidence) and most of her friends agree with her. I'm not saying she shouldn't have the freedom to express her views, but it's getting ridiculous.

A couple of days ago she wrote a status about how "Our native language is being taught as a second language, Immigrants should go back to their own country if they don't like it here" (I'm paraphrasing here). Her next status was then about how she had been reported to FB by two of her friends over this status (not me btw). I was silently pleased somebody had finally had enough of her lol.

I don't know her personal life, but from what she posts on FB she is very much wiccan/pagan and believes in the paranormal. That's fine, I'm not religious myself, but each to their own. I'm not anti - religion. She then posts a status update about her local Tesco "saying Happy Xmas" on their Christmas decorations. She was so hopping mad she apparently spoke to 3 customer service assitant to find out why they didn't say "Christmas". I told my OH and he just laughed. He said do a search and you'll see straight away that the "X" in Xmas stands for the cross and this has been shorthand for hundreds of years. It's not a plot to take "Christ" out of Christmas (which she had gone on to suggest). I linked her to a wiki page and several others had already made similar comments. She obviously read my link and told me "I not Greek or Italian" (that's where Xmas is derived) therefore she won't have any of it. I am truly baffled by how her mind works! :o

My OH said not to worry, Tesco would do the same 2 min internet search and tell her to politely FO. So she puts on FB yesterday, the store manager calls her back and says he agrees with her and will get the balloons (decorations in question) to be taken down and changed to "Happy Christmas"!

What the actual H*ll is going on in the world?????!!!

Rant over.

    I would delete her.

Someone recently disagreed vehemently about something I posted regarding adoption. I have my views - she has hers. I didn't respond to her vitriolic post and she is now unfriended!

Rise above it: She's clearly so desperate for attention that she can't see that her airing her unresearched views so publicly just shows how dim she is.

Lots of very needy people like her appear to get into unusual religions, political views, lifestyles, dietary habits etc because they think it makes them look fascinating. In general, it's just a vehicle to get them noticed by others and their interest in wicca/veganism/Marxism wanes when something more interesting or shocking comes along.

this all day long - all having her on your fb is doing is winding you up. You don't have to read it, delete her.
  • I've got a few friends who post offensive, racist rants on Facebook and I've deleted a few people over it. It's scary that people have such extreme views but some people will never change.
There are a couple of people who I do consider real friends and wouldn't want to delete, despite having options I completely disagree with on certain subjects. I just hide their stories from my news feed but look at their profiles occasionally.

It's a shame she'll never get to enjoy spaghetti or pizza or... ummm... democracy? :D

Face book, the newspapers, the tv and radio news..all Orwellian horns of doom parping out negativity and energy sapping rubbish 24/7/365. I just dont do any of it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Point her to discussion time on here. She'll fit right in!
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
