Yes! I know I should block/delete said person and I think I will. I don't enjoy debating with her, but sometimes I think a counter argument has to be made, especially with some of the stuff she posts. I can't sit back and let her accuse "all Muslims of being terrorists" for example. Maybe I feel a sense of justice? :-/

As for Tesco, I realise they're probably agreeing for the sake of business, but it's completely ridiculous! :rotfl:

Point her to discussion time on here. She'll fit right in!

Seconded. Especially if she hates Muslims. She'll be welcomed with open arms.

There is something to be said in favour of the idea of teaching English as a foreign language. English is not actually 'taught' in schools any more.

I'm in an evening class learning German. Mainly we're learning it practically - how to say who you are, where you come from, ask the way, buy a kilo of tomatoes etc but we do learn some grammar. Last week I was amazed to find that others in the class didn't know what is a verb, a noun etc - in English! If they ever learned any basic grammar they've long forgotten it. 'I live, thou livest, he/she/it lives' etc. If you don't know that, how can you hope to progress to 'ich wohne, du wohnst, er/sie/es wohnt'.

I've got some "friends" who I haven't deleted but I've just blocked them from my newsfeed. This means that we can still keep in touch, and I can look at their pages should the urge take me, but I'm not inundated day to day with their drivel.

You cant change her. She will always be a bigot. No matter how much you debate back. Just delete her. Your not achieving anything by keeping her a friend but getting wound up/

Basically, what we've got here is your average run of the mill angry nut who either blames all of the problems in their lives on others, or makes up problems in their life in order to blame it on others.

You can delete them, "unfollow" them (which doesn't delete them but does clean up your timeline) or just accept that they're an angry, bitter little person who buys into race-politics because they blindly follow a media machine that is only profitable when conflict exists, thus seeks to promote and prolong that conflict while maintaining the façade of opposition.

English is taught in schools. Adjectives, verbs, nouns, pronouns etc. are all taught in schools but people have a tendency to forget that which does not prove to be useful to them in life, or at least that which they do not place personal importance on.

How often does the average person need to explain what a noun is to someone and/or give examples? I don't believe that's cropped up once since I left school.

We were taught how to use a sewing machine in high school and even how to make our own clothes. I've not done that once since those lessons back when I was 13. I would not know how to use a sewing machine now. On the flip side, I do remember how to make those chocolate brownies that we also made in high school.

I'd also agree with the deleting and moving on. I know it seems wrong to allow people to spout utter hatred on social media, but you really have to think of yourself first. If they are winding you up and sapping your energy, yet refusing to have a proper debate and listen to your views, then they are not worth the effort IMO.

I recently had to stop responding in a thread on DeviantArt as the poster was proposing that fundamental Christians who own businesses should have the right to not serve gays and lesbians. This runs so counter to my own views on both homosexuality and how to run a successful business, that I started arguing. Then I realised that I was pointlessly wasting my time on a creature of low intelligence with totally ingrained, right-wing views, pitied said idiot for his lack of higher functioning, and then went and had a laugh about it with a friend on, funnily enough, Facebook! :)

Sometimes you simply have to let things go.

Jeez, I'm on the verge of deleting someone based on grammar alone! Clearly my tolerance level is much lower than yours OP :)

Just delete her and save yourself the hassle. Another option is to hide them from your newsfeed.

I know where you're coming from though, some people should think before they type/speak!!

I deleted everyone from my account.

Quite frankly all i was getting was pictures posted of peoples kids, pictures of their dinner, how well they were doing in life, "i love my husband, hes the best husband in the world" (when the husband in questions is an alcholic and likes to hang around mens loos), dumb assed "click 'like' to win a new BMW M5", etc, etc.

So i closed my account and opened another that i use just to follow facebook groups im interested in - classic cars, local stuff for sale, etc, etc.

It really is, in decent schools anyway. Rather a sweeping statement based on a few people in your German class. I can assure you that I and all of my children have been 'taught' English.
