If I do make it I will put up a before and after photo, prob from my shoulders, but I'm thinking of one particular before photo from Thailand that my friend took while we were walking to see the monkeys and I look like a sumo wrestler so will be a good before and after photo

Been on the scales and back upto 15 stone. I don't think these packet meals are helping so going to do some research for food to make when at work. Plus going to go back to my omelettes and salad at night and a meal during the day. The savings isn't doing bad, it's the weight loss I need to work on. Was talking to my boss over the weekend and she said she goes to slimming world, so I'm wondering if I aught to lok into it to start me off or something similar online as what I'm doing now isn't working as I'm walking upto 4 miles a day and not eating that much, so it must be something

    Hey dawyldthing,

Just browsing through some threads and remembered reading yours when you first started so thought I'd see how you were getting on!

You've done really well for a 2 1/2 stone weight loss so far!

I see you're struggling getting back into the exercise routine - have you thought about getting a gym buddy or something? Maybe you just need a bit of motivation and some friendly competition. The distraction of having someone there to chat to might help as well.

I'm starting back the gym next week as also got a some weight to lose so looking forward to that.

    Good luck!

I went today as I'm a lot of the shorter shifts at work. I quite enjoyed it, still working out if the treadmill is in miles or kilometres, but did 3.5 in 30 minutes so I recogn its kilometres as I walk a mile to work in around 20 minutes so it's probably about right. I've tried to get people to go before to no avail sadly. I've got spotify to listen to, just need to fit it in between shifts. I'm going to stick to weighing on Wednesdays as I have to weigh my service user once a week so will be easier to keep it on track. I'm going to see how I go for a few weeks and might try a personal trainer, but I think if I go a few times a week I should get there eventually.

I worked out if I want to get to my target weight of 12 stone by new year I need to lose 1lb a week, which will be a challenge, but I'm looking forwards to it.

You'll have to keep me updated how you go on :)

  • I can completely sympathise as I am also on a weight loss journey which started on children in need night and ends next children in need

I am aiming to lose 6 stone in that time (more if I can) through a combination of healthy eating and excercise. I am allowing myself a treat on a sunday - I will make a pud to allow myself some treats

so why a year and why ending on children in need night? I have announced my intention to my facebook friends and am being sponsored - most people have done 10p per lb and some are donating a lump sum of £10 to £15 if I hit my 6 stone target and I will be donating the proceeds to children in need 2015. Quite a public way of doing it but it will keep me motivated as I will be posting a monthly update on my progress and raise a bit of money for a worthy cause. So far if I hit my 6 stone goal I should raise around £400

My starting weight was 17.10. As of this morning so 6 days in I am 17.5 so just beginning but I really need to do this as would like to start trying for our second child next year and I will not put myself through it at my current weight.

found the above which I posted on the 20th november last year

4 months in I am now 14.9 so have lost 3 stone 1lb so far

got just under 3 stone to go

I have signed up for a 20 mile midnight walk in aid of our local hospice in june so currently training for that by walking everywhere.

Cricks, have you done it through going to the gym or swimming? That is amazing though. If I could lose that in that time I'd be booking Oz in August. That would be awesome though.ni think to keep on track you have to have something to focus on, but that is amazing in so little time. Are you following a specific eating plan?

I've been to the gym today and I'm undecided whether I'm going to Aqua class or gym on Tuesday. I might go to Aqua class and to gym in the middle of my shifts Wednesday as Tuesday's are pretty flexible so will give me time to go to my Aqua class before going back to work.

  • I am using my fitness pal to keep my daily calories around 1200 and not eating carbs at my evening meal (apart from on Sundays where I have whatever I want)

Exercise wise I am treating myself as if I am carless and walking everywhere - typically 6 miles plus a day

    I also do the following
    Wed - Zumba
    Thur - trampolining
Friday - swim 90 lengths at the pool
    Sat - shbam
    Sunday - shbam

I can certainly notice the difference - walked 10 miles today and don't feel any stiffness or soreness at all.

I typically lose 3lb a week. If I didn't have Sundays off it would prob be more like 5lb a week but I probably couldn't sustain it long term and don't want to live not being allowed chocolate again - I just confine the naughtiness to one day a week so it can't do too much damage

For that level of activity I think you should be eating far more than 1200 cals. If you work out the cals you need daily and then apply a physical activity factor, it will be way more than 1200.

I know what it's like to battle with my weight, it's been lifelong with me. Everyone is different but I've lost 4 stones with exercise, no calorie counting and 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.

I think for anyone trying to lose weight, some nutrition advice isn't a bad start, because it's possible to lose weight (and I'm talking in general terms here) on diets that aren't that healthy.

I see some people's food diaries and they are full of processed carbs and chemical nasties and they lose weight because they are in calorie deficit.

What worked for me was cutting out white carbs. Eating good fats. Cutting down on alcohol. Eating less processed foods. Lifting heavy weights, doing a lot of high intensity interval training.

And stopping dieting. It's a lifelong eating plan for me, it has to be or I'll get big again.

I'm also a group fitness instructor/pt and anyone who comes to me for a fitness programme, I ask them to try and follow a diet along paleo principles.

Also, it's important I think that people don't attach labels to food. This is good, this is bad. If you want a cake, have a cake but don't walk around after saying, I had that cake, I feel so guilty now. One cake isn't going to send someone off the rails, cake every day might.

I also don't agree with slimming plans that allow people to have smaller amounts of the stuff that made them big in the first place. Sugar is addictive. If you eat it, you want more of it. Even being allowed a certain amount of points or syns a day doesn't stop people going off plan.

If people go cold turkey as it were and eat clean with the occasional cheat meal, they'll do far better I think.

Low fat products, avoid as well. When fat is removed sugar goes back in. Plus some low fat products are a toxic chemical laden !!!! storm.
