  • No definately, I need all the help I can get tbh. I might pay for a personal trainer once a month, but have found when the reviews are so going to ask if I can get booked in. Will be a long day as I'm at work too, but will be worth it. I wish a while ago I'd remembered what the blokes name was that did my last induction as he was a personal trainer and seemed to know what he was on about. I looked at one which was £30 around here, but I suppose once a month or 2 isn't bad if it keeps me on track.

Definately thinking of making stuff before work, or taking eggs to cook. Had a small bit of cheese to flavour, but the local butchers in the market has some amazing offers on so once I get used to my shifts and pre planning I'll be able to take good food out the freezer for when I want it. Currently have chicken and steak in, but might get some more steak while it's on offer and some fish to gave stuff in.

I've had not a bad week. Did have a small chocolate cake and a trifle (my nan lives with us, so there's always something in which isn't good), but I've still been less than 1800 calories and have to keep saying to myself 'a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips', it then seems to make me focus. I went to the gym and do feel better for it and am drinking more water (dilute juice is my downfall, but I'm cutting it out as much as possible). Went in the scales Saturday and was 15 stone 12lbs, so was chuffed, so will see on Wednesday how I've really done.

It's my birthday next week so going dog racing which I will try and keep as my treat of the week as we've paid for a meal. Also got the week off and the swimming pool opens latter end of next week now, so looking forwards to getting back into swimming.

  • Personal trainers are good for giving you a program and guidance on what to do and how to do it! Mine asked to be keep a food diary and to be honest on it, he reviewed it once a week and told me where I was going wrong etc.

He always recommended one change every two weeks, he was a believer that if you changed too much at once you'll fall down.

Good on the water! if you cut the diluting juice you'll notice a difference, also the same with any soda (inc diet drinks). Coffee and tea is ok as long as your not overloading it with sugar!

Well enjoy your birthday, but remember it as a small blip on the road to success!

Good going on the recent weigh in, slow and steady is better than a massive drop :D

Well done OP for making a start with this, my friend has just lost nearly 3 stones now by losing a pound or less per week.
For breakfast have either boiled eggs or porridge made with skimmed milk. Cornflakes dont fill you up, pineapple is to sugary and an apple isnt enough.
I also wouldnt be eating nuts at all as they are full of fat have a couple of oatcakes instead.
For work take things like salad in a box, tin of vegetable soup/ vege chilli( if you have a microwave or decent thermos. Also carrot sticks are good, you can get them at the supermarkets cheap.
Stir frys for tea, done in water not oil with abit of stir fry sauce on are good but dont have loads of noodles.
Get sugar free dilute juice, theres not much in this.
    Good luck.

The vege chilli sounds like something I'll have to research for sure as it sounds good. I'm not too fond of most soups, but do like salad and vegetables.

Weighed myself today and I now weigh 15 stone 7lbs :D so I've lost 6lb this week and a total 2 stone since I started to try and lose weight about a year and a half ago.

I think eating steak that the market has on offer is proving an inspiration plus I cut some carrots thinly and had them with some spring onions and it's really really lush. Going to get some other vegetables in to put with it, but upto yet bar cutting out puddings I'm not feeling that hungry and feel like I'm eating better. Plus the local butcher have an even better offer on sirloin steaks so going to get up early to go before Zumba then work as hundreds like the Facebook page so 259kg won't last long. Tonight will be my test as I play dominos and they do like a late lunch afterwards, and once my friend said somewhere along the lines of she always puts lots on her plate, so I'm going to show her I don't always.

Now found out the swimming pool reopens late November (a few of us grumbled as they originally put December on Facebook, which took the mick a bit) but I'm glad they have done it as I know I found loose tiles a few times when I went to the aqua class, plus it should be under warranty as it can't be no more than 5 years since it was done so will be nice once it is done and safe as I know a few people at the aqua class and I do strangely miss it

With the classes - If you enjoy the aqua classes - do them anyway.
Far better to do a class you enjoy and stay motivated rather than one that is one you enjoy less so start skipping.

The point is to increase your exercise - so look at other things too- like getting off the bus a stop earlier and walking the last part -stairs rather than lifts, it all helps.

I mostly walk to work, which is about a mile each way. I think I was eating too many carbs before like mostly jacket potatoes, sometimes chips and sweets are my downfall. I saw I'd got a £10 voucher if I spent £20 from Buyagift, took me all my willpower to stop me getting the chocolate hamper as it looked good. Although I do wonder if I allow myself 1 piece a day it would help

  • In was going to suggest not keeping desserts and other junk food in the house, if you don't have them in then you can't fall off the wagon no matter how tempted you are. But if you live with family who do like to keep nice but unhealthy stuff in the cupboards then it's more difficult.
Are your family supportive of your plans and are they trying to eat healthily too? I think having people round you who aren't on the same wavelength when it comes to diet and food can be a big stumbling block.

Don't get too hung up on eggs! A lot of people have suggested eggs for breakfast and while I agree that eggs do indeed make an excellent, filling meal there are other healthy breakfast options so don't force yourself to eat eggs if you don't really like them. You're more likely to stick with healthy eating if you can find foods that you actually want to eat. Have you tried porridge for breakfast?

    Hi,

What height are you? I am 5.5 and started at 16 stone 13 lbs. I lost 6 and a half stone in a year and am now around 10.9 - that being my target.

My goal was always to get to 11 stone and now it is my scary weight - if I ever see it again I will freak - so I like to stay well away from it.

I would definitely say you need to eat more at breakfast and fibre foods at that. Try oats and yogurt or with skimmed milk and berries. Especially if you are going to be going to the gym as you need food in your belly to sustain you through exercise.

Eat lost of low fat meats, lots of veggies and a smaller amount of carbs - but still eat them. They are important. Don't get too hung up on the various diet fads out there just try to eat as naturally as possible and I am sure that you will start to see the weight come off.

Good luck it definitely can be done.
  • Hey dawyldthing, You're doing great keep up the good work

  • I can completely sympathise as I am also on a weight loss journey which started on children in need night and ends next children in need

I am aiming to lose 6 stone in that time (more if I can) through a combination of healthy eating and excercise. I am allowing myself a treat on a sunday - I will make a pud to allow myself some treats

so why a year and why ending on children in need night? I have announced my intention to my facebook friends and am being sponsored - most people have done 10p per lb and some are donating a lump sum of £10 to £15 if I hit my 6 stone target and I will be donating the proceeds to children in need 2015. Quite a public way of doing it but it will keep me motivated as I will be posting a monthly update on my progress and raise a bit of money for a worthy cause. So far if I hit my 6 stone goal I should raise around £400

My starting weight was 17.10. As of this morning so 6 days in I am 17.5 so just beginning but I really need to do this as would like to start trying for our second child next year and I will not put myself through it at my current weight.
