    Regarding mobile phone contracts:

This is another reason why I don't have a contract - because they are untrustworthy and I can't risk a bad credit rating because of that.

    Regarding experian trial:

I will take up this offer when I need to but have decided to cancel the same day I get my file.

    Regarding Garlik.com:

Shown to be self promotion on this forum. £30 a year and do we trust this foriegn registered business with our details? However, having the alerts and it all in one place I think justifies the service saving time, and it is slick. But what can be done with what you discover? You can request deletion of your details on file. Also they seem to at least be honest with sources (they quote data found in over 1000 online sources, and they 8+ locations).

The sources page at garlik is great:

Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

Why are mobile phone contracts untrustworthy?
  • I applied to Experian Ltd to see my credit file but was not provided with any of my current credit history as they say there were variations of my current address. My address is the format of 2 Park House, High Street, MyTown. The lenders enter my address in their format and then contact Experian to leave their trail. Therefore my address was recorded as
    • Flat 2 Park House, High Street
    • 2 Park House, High Street
    • Park House, 2 High Street

Experian stated that they only provide consumers with information on the address supplied by the consumer, however, lenders get all the information irrespective of any variations, as this is clearly the same address, including the postcode. I had to cancel my online CreditExpert membership because they were not able to enter more than one current address (variations) and ALL of my current credit history was missing. Sounds very unreasonable and not sure if they should be allowed to do that but as stated by Experian themselves, this is how they operate.

What can be done about it? Anyone else had similar problems? What information are they obliged to provide in the Statutory Credit Report?

  • What date is used by the credit reference agencies to remove defaults is it the satisfied date? I have a single default which I would question the satisfied date on and I want to make sure I'm right before I go further can anyone advise?

How long do credit accounts stay on my report?

We hold open accounts indefinitely. Once an account is closed, we hold it for six years from the settlement date. We also keep defaulted accounts for six years from the date of the default. The current balance on a defaulted account should show if payments have been made since the default or if the account now been fully paid.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

Thats cool, I have looked for a Settlement Date on my credit report is there one?

  • You're not alone, I did the same, gave all my personal details, even my credit card number and my telephone number and right at the end they say the service isn't available. If it isn't available, what sort of sharp practice is it to take all your details first?

Then tried https://www.annualcreditreport.co.uk - much easier, less questions asked and got my file ok, and it was free. How good is that?
