  • I would have been shocked as well PLMBL, my dad would have done the same (taking food from another table) and he has neither a head injury or has a drink - he does have mild learning difficulties and he just does not have any social etiquette - I seethe inside and keep smiling because I can't change him (I think it is because he hates waste and would rather see a clean plate).

DH is another one who has lost his inhibitions (I think SA was talking about this before as well) and often makes remarks of sexual innuendo - he might have done it before his neuro issues but only in private with me, now he does it in front of people:eek:

    Men, eh?
  • Thanks EE :A. I feel guilty now for 'telling tales' on here as I know DH is embarrassed and would hate to think everyone knows. I think he's used to finishing off the kids things as he also hates waste and he just forgot himself. I'll just have to forget about it now. Xx

Don't feel bad for telling it has allowed you to work it through without getting even more distressed or making things worse by maybe escalating it with DH.

My mantra when things are not as they should be is "best ignored" then smile and carry on. I taught the step children this when they used to retaliate to so much around them that was less than nice and it's held them in good stead ever since.

  • Hey Lucky

I know you said you're forgetting it, but I too would have been super mortified. My dad & Him are typical guys who actually TRY to embarrass/wind you up in public. My dad walks around the supermarket opening things like packs of wagon wheels, opening one, takes a bit, then says 'Yuk!' very loudly and puts it all back on the shelf knowing that my mum is going to buy them anyway. Him is very similar. His dad is a wind up merchant so I try to keepa poker face around them as the things they do make me feel ill to be honest.

Big hugs to you for having to deal with that. It is like having another child in the house eh.

So have you got a Christmas tree up? I haven't heard it mentioned! I wondered when people put theirs up and down? :)

  • Hi PLMBL

My mum has suffered a brain injury and has often done things like that. I have to watch her as she would probably quite happily steal a chip from a stranger while they are actually eating their dinner!!

I think I would be embarrassed but try to brush it off as one of your hubby's new idiosyncrasy's. There are worse things happening in the world ;)

The new medication idea sounds good. This will hopefully give you a quiet Christmas and allow you to relax a little without worrying if his medication will make him fit more often.

Big hugs hun. You cope so well with everything. :A
  • Thank you all for fighting my corner. You all have valid points/advice and have made me feel better so thanks again. Tomorrow is 8 years since my Dad died and anyone who read my last diary will know we had a very up and down relationship towards the end. I think DH may have envoked stronger feelings than usual in me just by reminding me of my Dad at this time of year, and I need to make sure I'm not 'punishing' DH for that. As Steph rightly says, there are worse things happening in the world, and as Mint suggests I shall smile and wave boys, smile and wave!!

Lilt, we put our Christmas tree up after school on Tuesday, so that was the 2nd. It was a bit earlier than normal but the boys were desperate to do it and I thought it would perk everyone up after DH's latest episode. Also, I'd normally put it up tomorrow with it being the first Sunday in December, but it always seems wrong to do it on my Dad's anniversary, so I'm just as pleased we did it earlier in the week. Furthermore, DS2 had a 'bling up your bike' event at school yesterday under the theme of Christmas, so we used all the left over decorations etc for that, which was easier to do when it was obvious which ones were 'spare'.

Today the Coc@-Col@ truck was at Mr A's so I took the boys to see it, but the queue was hundreds of people long - no exageration! So we gave up on that and met my Mum/Grandma/Auntie for coffee instead. Been at work tonight and we were hideously under staffed, which is never good at any time, nevermind a Saturday night a couple of weeks before Christmas! I bought myself a bottle of wine on the way home. Nuff said!
