Oh Mrs Lucky, what an awful time you have been having. As an insomniac I know how exhausting long term sleep deprivation is, and you have so much to deal with each day.

My sleep patterns changed permanently when dealing with parents going through major illnesses and worry/responsibility meant and kids were little so felt torn in two. Echoing what has already been written in other posts, you need to just get a short break - ask for help- so you can switch off even just for few hours.

My DS used to have night terrors quite regularly but he eventually grew out of them. He would wake up screaming and thrashing and there was nothing you could do. For the past 9 years he has a real insecurity and problems with sleeping. Even if DH and DD are upstairs, he will not go to sleep unless I too am upstairs. It started when I had to leave them for 10 days when my father was ill abroad. DS was 5 and I think that he was afraid that I would never come back. He's never gotten over it. Fear of abandonment? I have tried so many times to try and resolve this - nothing has worked. As he has got older I have tried to talk about it with him, and he says that he's worried I am all alone downstairs, and that what if something happened to me. Once he is asleep he is now fine.
Could your DS have similar worries? He feels safer when you are awake? He sees you dealing with so much each day, he knows you are looking out for DH (and him) all the time?

As you said, kids see things from a different perspective, The crocodiles under Lilt's bed made me smile as my DD always has a king size duvet (even now on her uni bed!) because she can cocoon herself up in at night time, its folded up under her feet and wrapped around under and over her with just a little breathing hole, because then nothing can reach out from under her bed and grab at her feet or arms or clothing!:p

  • Thank you so much everyone, it means such a lot that you are there for me and offering support.

DH has got a bit better as the day has gone on, but he is still doing things like looking in the wrong cupboards for things that he would normally know where to find them etc. There is definitely some loose wiring in his brain today (more so than usual :rotfl:).

I told my assistant that I'm not coming to Beavers tonight as I can't leave DH. This is great in one way as I have a 'night off', but she still had to come round this afternoon to pick up the keys for the hut and the supplies for the Santa crafts for tonight etc, so it still took up some of the day. MiL then said she'd come round too to help take the pressure off, but she came just before school pick up so I could 'go to get DS2 without having to take DH or leave him alone', so no rest for me then either.

I'm ok though, just looking forward to bed time!

  • NOA, I'm sorry I forgot to say, thanks for the insight into your DS's sleeping problems. I think I'll have a chat with DS1 shortly (ie way before bed time) as to what is actually troubling him.

  • DS1 came home and burst into tears after being told off at school. Apparently he didn't hear the teacher say to put everything down (he was talking ) and he was sent out of the class. According to him the teacher then 'forgot' about him for half an hour, so he didn't get to finish what he was making. It's really upset him but obviously I had to both comfort him and take the teacher's side. Yet more drama! I also used our 'chat' to ask about his bed time phobia though, and he said he gets bored when everyone is asleep?!?! No further forward with that one then!

DH has been having more waves of fear :(.

But I've done the monthly debt calculation and I'm in the £2k's :j:j

  • Yay to debt calculation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry you are still so tired but am glad you cancelled on Beavers. Should have still had MiL round so you could get some sleep!

Fingers crossed for DH not having any issues tonight.

Thank you to NOA for explaining my jibberjabber with her own far more readable story. Kids are funny creatures. And boys more so than girls I find, when talking to their parents.

Big hugs as always ! xx

Well done on the debt busting. I was about 19 before I stopped looking under the bed and in my wardrobe for gremlins/ghosts/murderers every night - I still can't sleep if there's a cupboard door or drawer open plus I slept with the radio and lamp on all night until I moved in with Mr SA (aged 24) so there's hope for your DS yet!

Hope tonight is a restful one for you xx
