Chancellor George Osborne says the Government had given a "very clear" message to petrol firms that they should cut fuel prices. Osborne says: "The oil price has fallen, we expect that to be passed on to people at the petrol stations as they fill up their cars. We expect the oil companies to do this and we will be watching very carefully to make sure that they do."

what a cheek 60% of the price goes to them

Companies owned by shareholders in wanting to make a profit shock horror. In other news, man lands on moon, bears sh*t in woods and Pope announces he's catholic.

Does the last poster have any idea about anything, except what he is told, one wonders ?
  • The margins on petrol are wafer thin in the UK. Shell makes more money out of you buying a packet of Maltesers than putting in half a tank.

Luckily it's a business where they have to do next to nothing other than have a person in a hat sitting at a till surrounded by Maltesers and buttons for pumps or there wouldnt be any petrol stations any more.

George Osborne does very well out of fuel though. If the government cared about petrol prices they would cut some of the 80% tax they charge us.

Diesel users are getting ripped off again

I passed 6 filling stations today (non supermarket) and although the petrol price in all 6 was the same £1.229/litre the diesel price varied from £1.269 up to £1.309/litre.
