Met my wife in a cafe. It was busy and she asked if she could share my table.

We got chatting after she said she liked the song that was my ringtone at the time.

I notice you conveniently forgot to mention the song... I am going with 'the macarena' ;)
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Online but not a dating website.

Yes same here. I cant see the problem with developing a friendship online but a dating website.... I don't think so.

I too felt hesitant about online dating, until I found out most people I know (roughly 23-30 age bracket) were either a member of an online dating site, met their partner online or knew a couple that had met online. So I think its really becoming the norm. I've been seeing my boyfreind i met on plenty of fish for six months now :)

I think someone mentioned that men have to be very proactive in the online dating (often quite like real life), this is true. And of course many arejust after sex, but I don't see this as a problem, you can spot them a mile off! Most are just up front about that fact.

I'd seriously recommend giving it a go.

Online dating worked for me ( I'm 50 , my partner 55 ), single scene here in Cyprus very different to the UK.

    Out of curiosity, why?

Its not much different to going up to someone in a bar...

    Thanks for responses guys.

The few people I know who have done online sites have always said that there are far more women on the site than men. Can anyone vouch for this?

I'm reluctant on the basis that any date I have, we will just be the best of a bad bunch. I know that may be jumping the gun a bit there as I've not actually tried it.

A friend of mine was worried about other people finding her on dating sites as she has a unusual name, she's also a school teacher so worried about students/parents/collegues finding her.

Partner? Is this the same person you met 3 weeks ago?

I've met all my partners through hobbies, and I don't mean the boring or old people's ones - I'm talking late teens and early twenties! In my case it was through a local group of advanced motorists, a fellow special constable (part time police), and radio control model car racing. In all these cases, the hobby enabled us to get to know each other on a friend/social level first, which then developed, I suppose similar to those who work together. I just couldn't do the "pub or club thing" talking to strangers nor approach people directly asking them out - just not me at all.
