I am therefore basing my opinion on observed events not just what "a lot of people" say.

OK, no need to get your knickers in a twist. My comment was based on the number of "dating someone from work is an absolute no no" posts that I have read on this very forum. Not yours in isolation.

We've had this thread before so i've already given this answer, it's probably not as funny as the first time i said it. Maybe though with the Op starting the thread there are some that missed it first time.........
......... I was working in a travel agents when i met my wife. She came in looking for a holiday and i was the last resort.

I didn't if you look. I even thanked you for your post. Not sure why you would want to single this out.

As you did, I am writing about personal experience. Nothing more. You may wish to take your own advice on that basis, that or have a nice brew and chill out a bit ;)

I met my partner on a solos holiday, we travelled to see each other for five years and have now been living together for two and are engaged.

I have done internet dating and as a bloke I found I had to be proactive and to recognise its competitive. I.e. better looking men will get more attention the same as in life. I also tried speed dating but being rejected by 15 women in one night was hard (the fact that 15 women did not want a date is not overly surprising but its not a great way to build confidence).

Good luck there are nice people out there.

Work romances can definitely have their downsides

My ex had an affair with someone at work ......moved into the shared house she was living in (when I dumped him for his appalling bad taste and lack of morals )....she spent the next year easing out all the other sharers .... (he was still thinking it wasn't a serious relationship -although I did try to warn him that the fact she wanted them to buy a house together was sort of indicating otherwise) . He then started another affair with a girl who worked directly with them both in the same office .....and left to move in with her as he was "in love". Woman one played the poor victim (the fact she'd broken up a marriage to get him in the first place apparently went over her head :) ) and then got got her buddy in HR to make sure woman two was on the next redundancy list ...... Oh and woman two dumped him a couple of months later. Didn't exactly make for a great working environment but kept the company gossips going for months !

I don't know if it still happens but banks used to not allow couples who were married or living together to work in the same branch. If a couple got together one had to take a transfer. I can see the logic in it.

    And so it begins............

Why can't people have a discussion on this board without sniping and back-biting and sarcastic remarks?

FTR, I met my husband in an underground bar in Paris. We are both British, but were both there at the same time, with different people.

I dunno. Like is said, I thanked gloomanddoom for his post. Always good to get different experiences, that's all I was putting across.

I thought that was kind of the point of these things.

I still think the OP is looking in the right places. As your story and SailorSam's suggest, it is quite possible for two people to just simply click and that be the end of it.

Sounds like you had a lucky escape!

My friend told me about a similar crazy situation in her work. The top dog man was having a relationship with a senior manager, but it wasn't public knowledge. They went public and also announced they were both leaving to move to the companys US office together. The senior managers PA then pipes up that the top dog has also been sleeping with her for the last year!! They all had to work together for months before the move, talk about awkward...
