Oh I hadn't spotted the hearth/mantelpiece that @KajiKita pointed out, I thought it was a much smaller space to play with. So what I said before, but with more stick-on tiles 😁

a bit of a left field suggestion but have you asked the house what to do with that space?
Someone suggested I ask the house for something I was pondering about storage space and so I did and asked the house to make suggestions and soon after the ideas came to mind

I think the right ideas were in my subconscious all along but I needed the head space for them to come up if that makes sense??

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

What a beautiful boy Mustard is and Miss Summer too. Those two certainly fell on their paws when you adopted them.

@Debsnewbudget your cats are beautiful too.

Is there a fireplace around the space too? A friend of mine has a big bowl of pine cones with fairy lights tangled within and around. She has blocked the hole and area with some sort of board and stained glass style vinyl stuff. She adds seasonal bits to the pine cones too….eg tiny pumpkins for Halloween, baubles for Christmas etc. it gives the impression of a fire in the fireplace she couldn’t take out.
