That is unfortunate but you should try again first thing in the morning. Problem is that you can't really rely on the system being down as any kind of "defence" because you allowed the insurance/tax to lapse when the system was no doubt working.
I made a on-line SORN declaration on one of my cars yesterday so it was working then.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Maybe that is why it redirected to the wrong page before. Must be a fault tonight.0

I have heard that the system has had "problems" since the new rules came in on October 1st because it went into melt down due to the many applications it was suddenly dealing with. It seems that a month later the same thing is happening.
I for one do not agree with the new way of doing things because clearly relying on computer technology to take over the whole taxation process (including enforcement) dosn't work.
The DVLA will have us believe that vehicle use/tax will be monitored by ANPR technology so the "tax disc" is no longer needed. Well I live on the Isle of Wight and I know for a fact that there is currently NO DVLA presence OR ANPR cameras been installed anywhere on the Island to detect untaxed vehicles.
But of course the hard nosed, determined 'not to pay their road tax' brigade know this.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Thanks system just went online and I made the SORN.

OK. Next step is to book it in for an MOT on Wednesday (when your insurance kicks in) and then (assuming it passes) apply for the tax using the link I provided previously. The tax will run from the 1st November (discs are no longer issued) and will automatically cancel the SORN deceleration.
Job done.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

Good advice as usual, Tilt, but you missed an opportunity to spread scare stories and panic. What is the Motoring section coming to?0
