For insurance, they use the database.

So I am not out of the woods yet.

Hi Pine77, how did this work out in the end?

Last week I cancelled my insurance for my old car which was parked on the driveway since it failed its MOT a few weeks earlier.

When I got the paperwork through for the cancelled insurance it had a section on Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) so I immediately registered my car as SORN online.

This does mean there was a period of 7 days where the car was uninsured before the SORN was registered. Do I have a fine coming in the post for not knowing about this?

I went to ask the DVLA using this form but it looks like I'm writing an official confession and giving them everything they need for an open and shut court case! (Maybe I’m just a cynic :))

No fine for 7 days no cover.

You won't hear anything about it.
