Car insurance question, tax disc

I have just got back from abroad and realised my car went out of date in every way. I feared this would happen so it has been on my dad's field off road the last 3 weeks.

Now my insurance ran out 23rd october.
My tax disc expired 31st october with my MOT.

I rang an insurance company and they stated they can begin a policy for me from the 5th november, so I agreed.

Now I just realised, I am in trouble probably because my old insurance ended on the 23rd... How can I account for this lost 2 weeks with no insurance even though I was not driving. I also realised I can't drive to get an MOT until the 5th! when I am covered, and until I get an MOT I can't get a tax disc!

What can I do?

Thanks

One thing you won't get is a tax disc.

Are you given a grace period on taxing the vehicle? The car has been untaxed for less than a week.

You need to declare the car as being SORN NOW here: https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sorn and book it in for an MOT.

Get it MOT'd on the 5th November WHEN the insurance kicks in (you can drive it to a pre-arranged MOT appointment). Providing it passes the MOT, tax it on line here; https://www.gov.uk/tax-disc you will need to tax it from 1st November even though you cannot drive it from then.

Once you have completed the above, you shouldn't incur any fines.

As long as the OP acts NOW, I doubt the system will flag up him being in breach of the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) after such a short period of time. HOWEVER technically he is in breach of the regs.

Technically no but it's the lack of insurance cover since 23rd October which is the most concerning. The vehicle needs to be SORN'd for it not to be insured.

Just tried. Would not let me saying:

MOT test certificate could not be found

Sorry, it has not been possible to match the vehicle with a MOT Test Certificate at this time and you are unable to complete your application for vehicle tax using this service.

This does not necessarily mean the vehicle does not have a valid MOT Test Certificate. To apply for vehicle tax, the vehicle must have a valid MOT on the date the tax is due to begin.

Clearly you didn't read my post correctly. You need to SORN it NOW, not tax it!
