no one is involved. it's a photo of 2 women on a train! That is all there is!

ETA the bloke who posted it lives in Wolverhampton and doesn't say he was ON the train! Why not ask him and then come back, mr messenger?

If there is a genuine disabled person requiring disabled seats on the train ( Should able bodied people move ? )

Should people post and repost unsubstantiated rumours on the internet?

Should people be criticised without being given a right of reply?

Should you be sued for libel if the photo or description is not accurate?

    1) yep. What else is the Internet for?
    2) they can reply if they wish.
    3) I would suspect no.

Completely this. Anyone can take a photo and for some reason people seem to follow this weird herd instinct thing where they assume that every single photo being planted in front of them must be true.

The Morrisons's Royal Legion original story turned out not to be true as they chose to be outside & now we have this.

I quite simply don't believe these things as I know so well how people manipulate and exaggerate things.

Remember, not all disabled people are visibly disabled before making judgements elsewhere than in this story.

Genuine question ('cos I don't know the answer):

Is it possible to pre-book disabled seats?

If so, why wasn't that done for the disabled boy?

What would have been the attitude if the disabled seats had already been taken by a disabled person?
Would there have been a discussion about who was the most disabled and therefore most entitled to use the seat?

Instead of taking photos of the 2 people sat in the disabled seats and posting on Facebook, maybe Mr Gibney would have been better off going in search of the inspector to resolve this issue.

I rarely travel on trains but I often uses buses.
There is an area specifically for wheelchair users (can be used for buggies if not required for wheelchair) that I quite often sit on especially if I'm not going far.
But - I always keep an eye open for people getting on who may require that area and will move before being asked.
  • you can pre book and also should pre book a porter to get the ramps out for a wheelchair. Who will also get you on board and settled in.

So I guess we should ask the question "why wasn't this done to ensure the boy had the seat/space he required?".

I think we as a society need to ensure disabled people are not discriminated against and are offered adequate facilities but I also believe there should be some responsibility by them (or by the people looking after them) to make things as easy as possible for them.
And if that means pre-booking a seat, then that's what should have been done.

If things were as Mr Gibney alleges - and assuming that the 2 people sat in those seats weren't disabled in some non-visible way and hadn't pre-booked those seats because they genuinely needed them - it still doesn't excuse the refusal to move when the train didn't look that full.

I would like to know the full story from all perspectives - the Facebook exposer, the disabled passenger (or his carer) and the 2 women who allegedly 'didn't care' that the boy was in a cramped space.

You can't prebook on every train. Even if you can not every person knows exactly what time train they are going to be getting so it's impossibleto always book a disabled space on any train you ever get.

It seems unlikely the OP would have vented unless they felt aggrieved by the 2 people's behaviour.

On this board you are never going to get every side of every argument and as always people like to jump on and attack the OP.....

    Of course they should.

Not sure where anyone expected that child to go tbh. Those areas are for wheelchair users.

The child in question is disabled, if the post is to be believed. Personally, I wouldn't wait to be asked to move; I would willingly give up my seat (disabled seating or otherwise) to someone who clearly needed it more than I did.

Mind you, the tool in the seat behind the women should be ashamed of themself as well - one person in a 4-seat-plus-table section and bags sprawled across all the other seats. Naughty.

Edit - Gibney would be well-advised to amend his FB security settings as well.
