Difficult, isn't it? What we need is a clear sticky - with a clear guide on "How To", plus a FAQ on most of the repeat questions. And then folk can be free to ask whatever they like - and others free to refer them to the FAQs. The whole thing here though is a real mess - tough to find answers for new folk, and frustrating for regulars who don't want to keep repeating themselves. But the MSE folk take almost no interest in this forum unfortunately.
I think you are right. A FAQ sticky, plus a write up with general principles and procedures. Then let it go to 1 problem per thread and if something is addressed on the sticky, just refer people to the sticky. Seems to work well on the parking forum.

It's not my or the regulars forum, our advice on the best place to post, can be freely ignored and very often is, but so is the request for help! Because we just don't see it and get an email alert.

Ultimately, what some of us would welcome is someone being appointed with soft thread privlidges, but we've been asking, sadly our requests fall on deaf ears.

  • I suspect for many this is their first experience of forums (fora?) AND they are cross and annoyed.

They'll probably be an influx of noobie threads since Martin mentioned flight delay compo on his show last week, all we can do is bump to try to ensure posts do get posted into the most relevant threads.
