You know, like slavery or homophobia.

    :rotfl:

Do you kind of have a point. Misogyny is accepted where other prejudices are not. But being called an unpleasant name is hardly akin to keeping a black man in chains and making him work the land till he drops dead. Shame on you!!! :naughty:

I (and my friends) been on the receiving end of many such charming remarks. I've walked down the street minding my own business and then heard a car full of blokes yelling obscenities out of the window. Who hasn't.

None of us went home crying to mummy about it. (What's mummy gong to do anyway? Go and chase them :rotfl:) It's just one of those annoying or unpleasant things. Get some perspective!

OK. Apologies. From the tone of your posts, I had (wrongly) assumed that you were a very blokeish bloke. But no, you are one of the sisterhood who obviously flounces down the road, tossing her head at each and every catcall - and goes home deflated when not having had more than five in a row.

Insensitive crass women like you are just as bad, if not worse than the blokey blokes - you cannot and will not accept that not everyone relishes in such comments.

I'm no shrinking violet - as I said earlier, I could give as good as I got - BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT!

Nice or funny comments are ok, there's nothing wrong with a bit of light-hearted banter, as you say. But creepy and aggressive behaviour, that shouldn't be tolerated.

Where I grew up, people would shout comments, not just to the girls and women but about anything and anyone. Nothing was sacred!! :rotfl: Thin-skinned people wouldn't last long in that town, I can tell you!

I find it interesting that you state "people" would shout comments, then give examples in which men (or males at least) make offensive and impertinent remarks to women.

This appears to be the root of the issue in that these sub-human males fail to understand that the women on the receiving end of their drivel are PEOPLE too.

Oh and banter is not to do with making personal remarks to strangers - banter is a light-hearted interaction between friends.

It's about respect, about seeing people as people - all equal and deseving of being treated well.

It's not ok to keep people as property, it's not ok to discriminate based on sexuality or race, and it's not ok to treat women as objects and intimidate them.
  • ...Until you have experienced it daily year-after-year you have no idea what it is like and one thing it is not is funny.

Can't be ar5ed quoting most of your post, but I'm afraid you've lost your authority there m'dear.

Just because you have not experienced this on a daily basis you seem to find it hard to understand that some of us have.

Also, being patronising by calling people m'dear just makes you look silly and negates any interesting comment you may have been making.

So you would have no problem with using the n word? (it's only a joke, a bit of banter) Or passing comment on a load of drag queens? (it's a laugh, isnt it)..

It's crass, ignorant and rude, and usually it's the undereducated, boorish oik who still finds it funny. I certainly don't. Nobody would catcall me now, I'm far too old, but it happened when I was younger. Sometimes I found some of it intimidating. Of course, the lead on from this is a fine line into rape culture. But of course, nobody means it, it's just a bit of banter. Isn't it.....?

Yeah, that's exactly what happens 11.gif

Oh it's all my fault now, is it :rotfl:

Well, you go putting the world to rights m' dear. Let me know once you're done. I look forward to this perfect world where no-one is allowed to offend anyone.

I'm afraid you're showing your ignorance. And how is m'dear offensive? People on here use the word hun quite a lot, which conveys much the same meaning.

There does seem to be definite double standards in this world. Imagine if the roles were reversed in this clip. The outrage it would have caused.

At first it was a compliment and light-hearted, saying he's handsome, but after that she got a bit cougar-ish, I agree. Bit embarrassing to watch, really.
