If he did, he might have been able to point out something I realised hours later - that tariffs described as online fixed price and fixed price online are not the same.

    Scottish Power I presume?

When I am asked to enter my SP current tariff on Energyhelpline I am given a 'drop down' list of 77 tariffs from which to chose.

For tariffs finishing this month(November 2014) there are:

    1. Unifi Fixed Energy November 2014 Online

    2. Fixed Energy November 2014

    3. Fixed Energy November 2014 NSC

    4. Fixed Energy November 2014 Online

5 Fixed Energy November 2014 NSC Online

    6. Online fixed price Energy November 2014

    7. Platinum Fixed Energy November 2014 NSC

    8. Platinum Fixed Energy November 2014 Online NSC

    9. Unifi Fixed Energy November 2014

Pincher - you are obviously one of the minority of energy customers who enjoy the juggling game which the energy companies would impose upon us all.

What I actually want is the Sheldon Cooper scenario of becoming emperor through commanding an army of Killbots, so I can do what I want with the world's energy, and don't have to worry about paying for anything.

The sad thing is, an army of Killbots will cost so much to run, it's cheaper to just pay my utility bills.
The result is actually less genuine choice, rather than more.

Make me a Stalinist emperor, and you don't have to decide anything.

We will have a Ministry of Global Employment, so you could be sent anywhere. Unfortunately, the Department of Global Accommodation has a different IT system, so you will not ave somewhere to stay for a couple of weeks, until the paperwork catches up.

    :D

    Tempted. W'd save £80 +£30 +1500 Tesco points.
Compared to edf March 2016 fix.
    How do I decide?
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

At least you can find them somewhere. It's harder to find a master list on the SP website, hence the Google search which doesn't care as much about the order of the words, and I didn't notice the difference straight away.

Something else that happened is I did 3 comparisons a couple of weeks ago and swapped to the Nov 2015 fix.

Then 2 comparison sites said I could save £30 by swapping to the same tariff.

Then it turns out I'm on the Dec 2015 fix, despite SP and the comparisons all indicating a few days ago it was called November, and what is now called November was different.

Some glitches in API access to the tariffs, I assume, hence my call to check.

Before you decide on a tariff - Economy 7 or 'normal' - you need to know how much power it will require each day.

    What sort of Hybrid?

Many hybrids simply have a 'normal' combustion engine providing power to an electric motor(via a battery) that powers the transmission.

There are full electric cars like the Nissan leaf that are all electric.

What you need to determine is how much electricity you will use, on a regular basis, to charge the vehicle's battery before you know what tariff is best.

Cars like the Toyota Hybrid plug-in only have a battery with a small capacity(4.4kWh I believe) you probably won't use that 7 days a week.

Bear in mind that on Economy 7 your daytime(17 hours) costs more than a 'normal 24/7 tariff. So your savings for 7 hours consumption need to be more than the extra you pay for 17 hours.

Also bear in mind that the timing for the 7 hours is set by the DNO and cannot be changed.

On basis of saving £350 p.a. + £30 cashback + in-credit from EDF, opted to switch via the cheaper energy club website. My address details are correct there.

Got an email from Eon saying I need to activate my account, did so only to find they thought I lived at a different address in the same postcode. Other homeowner would be very cross, so Eon cancelled my switch today.

Eon are blaming MSE for giving them incorrect address data for me. Have emailed MSE twice today asking them to cancel my switch flag on the CEC website so I can reapply. Currently it still says I have a switch in progress.

Now I'm wondering if my old supplier is going to cut me off while I have no switch-to supplier.

    Smile, things could be worse!
Do you think I should chance it?

BTW. Eon says if I'm unsuccessful in re-applying with the MSE Collecting offer, they have a "similar offer" available on the Eon website. Haven't checked it yet as the call centre person led me to believe the saving may not be the same.

Can anyone tell me how long it take to switch using CEC? Switching from another provider to E.on.

My current fixed contract comes to an end on 14 Nov and I intend to leave that supplier at the earliest opportunity.

Can I start the ball rolling before that date, or should I wait until the contract has ended then switch?
  • geordie-joe,
I would check whether there's a penalty for ending your current contract early and compare with likely gain if you jump now. Also, MSE may come up with another offer in the future.

My EDF one has no penalty for ending early.
