It's not just the breastfeeding thread though, there are others here now that have turned name calling, nasty, completely off topic and just really uncomfortable awful to read.

Yeah, my infamous neighbour thread was one of them.

I've only been using this forum for 5 months and I can't believe how mean some people can be.

If everyone posted in the manner they would be happy to speak to someone face to face I wonder if people would be quite so rude.

    Some of us do! ;)

I don't think that is the case. The issue is the same as any board, too few will admit they were in the wrong and instead of just saying "oops" they try to cover their embarrassment by generally digging themselves a deeper hole.

Doesn't matter if you are a bloke or not I don't think. Not my experience at least.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

There are some posts that really touch a nerve. The way you bring your child up is often the biggest one.

I guess we are made up of lots of different up nature/nurture particles and when someone feels it has touched a nerve fireworks go off.

The fact identities are hidden gives people a strange belief that they have to drop their niceties.

If everyone posted in the manner they would be happy to speak to someone face to face I wonder if people would be quite so rude.

Also when affronted face to face, would you go into an all out response, you said, he said, she said grrrrr, or would you walk away.

This internet lark is not great all the time is it?!

The thing is on the internet you have the time to think of a reply, type it, spell check, look up big words to make it sound more important , google some links/objections/counter arguments/point scoring/facts, in real life none of that happens, it is much more of the moment, a snappy retort maybe and a walk off, the mind often cannot think of such terrible replies with such speed as they come on here with the extra added internet help.

Also the internet people do not know each other so therefore do not care about the other person, maybe yes they do look out for their username because from the last posts they hold some respect for their views or are interested in what they post but other than that whatever they post they can post and forget, log off after causing damage or go onto the next thread without a moments thought.

Internet is a detachment, it is not treated as real with real people and hurt feelings and upset, unhappy people that need real help , some clicks and yes you can argue there are no clicks but some clicks do have some kind of pleasure from getting on the case of a newbie or a troll or a thread they think they can have fun/attack in and within minutes it turns, goes off topic and causes more harm than good.

As been said no one knows each other and with the secrecy of a username they act differently to how they could conduct themselves in real life.

I think this board has always been odd.

But I disagree all women hate each other. :)

Its good to know the motoring board is friendly. I wish I had friends who liked cars and would just buy us one instead of agonising over what to get instead of our LR. :D

I'm a Woman, and I actually agree with this. I'm not saying all Women hate each other because they don't, but put a group of Women (who don't know each other) into a room and within not very long at all they'll start squabbling and !!!!!ing. Put a group of men in a room and it would be a totally different reaction for the majority of the time.

My husband reckons that The Apprentice is an excellent example of this, and i have to say that I actually agree with him.

I don't agree that this board is particularly unpleasant if you are a man, purely because it's usually all the Women turning on each other!

This is exactly why I have never understood how Loose Women is still on the air.

    Oh :(:(

Other MSE friends have recommended a toyota so I have to go to a toyota garage to go and have a look and see if there is anything suitable.

All these new LR, and nothing does what I want it to do, and we have a dead one here and a dying one.

I wonder of we should fix the dead one after all.
