The motoring board is full of egos. This board has a few cliques but nothing more. The discussion board seems to almost entirely consist of left wing v right wing politics (without them even realising they are two cheeks of the same backside) and thinly veiled racism.

Of them all, occasional claws out posts and all, this is probably one of the friendlier and well rounded boards.

Exactly what led to tiddlywinks complaint last week it was a dumping ground for loads of other stuff.

As a Toyota owner, I can also recommend them ;)

    Oh :(:(

Other MSE friends have recommended a toyota so I have to go to a toyota garage to go and have a look and see if there is anything suitable.

All these new LR, and nothing does what I want it to do, and we have a dead one here and a dying one.

I wonder of we should fix the dead one after all.

Actually you will probably get some very helpful advice on buying or repairing on the Motoring board if you ask a genuine question and are truthful.

Just don't ever ask how to get off a speeding ticket.

Genuine question......why wouldn't someone be genuine or truthful about buy or repairing a car? I mean, about all things. Are there really people posting bogus car buying wants or advice on repairing fictional broken cars?

I am sure LandyAndy can answer too but it is usually people wanting to know if they can bodge something before selling it on or seeing if they can get away with something that is essentially dangerous.

You'll just get a lot of varied opinions on anything that has more than one possible answer and then they'll all start arguing amongst themselves to demonstrate who is the most right (when in truth, they all probably are if only they would see it)

When did this board become so nasty?

Everytime I log on I see nasty comments & judgemental posts.

This used to be a friendly & supportive place to be & it's a damn shame it's changed.

    Welcome to the Internet.

Before these forums made an appearance discussion groups were on the Usenet newsgroups.

It always followed the same pattern.

A group was set up for a specific purpose/interest.

It was perfect for a while.

Then the advertisers and spammers arrived making it difficult to sort the genuine from the background noise.

Then the Trolls arrive, their sole intent it to cause problems and confrontation, they thrive on it and from that point on the group is in decline as decent people start to leave and look for something elsewhere. If things aren't going the trolls way they then usually pick on someone as a pack until that person leaves then they move on to someone else.

oh, wow, I can see why that would cause rows. Gulp. Well, our 'dead' one is in a barn and there is no way we would bodge to sell.

True Mse fail. I have never sold a car other than to someone I know who asked to buy car from me and named their price or the scrap man. I tend to keep cars till I have killed them, or until they are uneconomical for me to repair. By which time most of them haven't been worth much to any one. Those that were have been bought by people who asked to buy them.

We're bodging along in an unsuitable lr simply because we cannot decide what to replace it with while our defender rots in the barn because DH cannot repair it himself but doesn't want to sell it for scrap, and buy back was more than its worth to someone else. ATM its used for visiting kids to sit in and say 'broom broom'

Shows how naive I am, I wouldn't have thought of bodging to sell at all. I couldn't live with that. I guess ours will go to scrap when we've decided what to replace with...unless garage knows any one who it is of value to.
  • I think this board has always been odd.
    :D

Not always. When I joined back in 2004 (goodness 10 years ago) it was really lovely.

You posted a question, everyone came back with a lovely response. The Mumsnet type forthright, I am right, didn't arrive until much later.

There's no such thing as a LR that you can't fix!

Given the above if you were to advertise it on a specialist LR site and list all its failings there's bound to be someone looking for a project to throw money at who will buy it.
