There's no such thing as a LR that you can't fix!

Given the above if you were to advertise it on a specialist LR site and list all its failings there's bound to be someone looking for a project to throw money at who will buy it.

And that's when DH starts saying maybe we should keep it.......:rotfl:

Its been in the barn a while now. :(

I'm even thinking maybe we should keep it, fix it and then get a second car for when we don't need it, but the cost of fixing it won't be small.....

Then we get in this circular discussion of pattern of thought, patch up the dying car and nothing happens.....:o

Not always. When I joined back in 2004 (goodness 10 years ago) it was really lovely.

You posted a question, everyone came back with a lovely response. The Mumsnet type forthright, I am right, didn't arrive until much later.

    About 2007?:o

Good thing with Landies (so I am told) is they are fairly basic. By their nature most bits bolt on and off.

Excellent thing to start on as a project.

What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I don't usually post on this Board now but this thread caught my eye and it's a subject after my own heart. This Board has been going downhill for a few years imo. Many of the more balanced posters don't bother posting any more.

If anyone thinks that's not the case, try not visiting the site for a while and come back with fresh eyes. I think you'd be pretty shocked at just how bad it's become and how used to it all you'd got. What's worse is that this unpleasantness is often defended. How many times do you see people condoning nasty comments instead of immediately jumping on them to condemn them? There are only a few left who will post to address other people's nastiness. Most don't bother and so it's left alone to spread even more. The 'report a post' option is a joke imo. People need to know their counterparts are downing their unpleasantness. Reporting to 'teacher' and getting their post deleted does little to change ways.

My own personal opinion is that MSE doesn't do enough to weed out the persistent offenders and the new aliases. Perhaps the balance would change again if they did. I don't think there are as many nasty unique individuals as first appears. It's just that the nasty ones can be more prolific under different guises. Whatever the case, rot is rot. It spreads easily until there is little good left.

You don't know if you are interacting with a 15 year old bored troll or someone in the midst of a bi-polar episode. Either way, all you see is unpleasantness and you wouldn't normally choose to engage in sensible discussion with either in real life. The only thing you can be sure of is your own reaction. It's your choice to make it nice or nasty. Sadly it appears that it's easier for most folks just to go with the flow.

I miss the old days when you could gab with normal nice ordinary folk who cared about what impression they gave of themselves.

When did this board become so nasty?

Everytime I log on I see nasty comments & judgemental posts.

This used to be a friendly & supportive place to be & it's a damn shame it's changed.

Has it changed, though? It's always been like that as long as I can remember, possibly because it's (for the large part) populated by some rather embittered forum-users who seem to see this board as an outlet for their pent-up frustration and anger.

Maybe it's become a little bit worse recently, but this board is known on the net for being very schoolyard and judgemental.
  • I think the last year on this section of the boards has been more than a bit odd, not so sure if its anything to do with having lots of women on the boards, I certainly don't have a beef against women just because of their sex, also some posters have fairly neutral names or names where you would think they are male when they are female so you can't always tell.

I do think that in the run up to christmas it can turn into silly season and definitely around christmas some of the posts get bizarre, people laying into one another over whether their christmas plans are bigger, better and bolder and the inevitable I got the wrong size of turkey delivered, Im an emotional wreck, am sure there was a thread exactly like that this year.

There are also clearly a few posters who have history and dont like one another with the nit picking/thanking of posts that oppose them that goes on.

Happens on most forums, Ive yet to be on any forum about any subject that was relatively peaceful, tends to be the opposite.

This is true....if yoU have time for a project. My husband doesn't. He works away from home mon to fri, we have a SERIOUS fixer upper house, and a load of other stuff which needs more hours than we can throw at it.

A fixer upper LR is a lovely idea......but its just not practical, as the last few years have shown. :(

It's good to see you aliasojo, haven't seen you posting for a while. I did wonder if you didn't feel comfortable posting on this board anymore :(

People who joined in 2004 (crikey I didn't know the site even existed then!) seem to recall MSE forums being a much friendlier place. I wonder if it's just to do with the evolution of the internet generally. Nowadays you get the Twitterati posting all sorts of nonsense, often anonymously, and internet chatrooms have become quite unpleasant and aggressive.

Fwiw I don't envy ANY forum team whose job is to police grown adults who cannot or will not use a forum without schoolyard antics breaking out. I've actually been on a forum that is completely unmoderated, and oh my!:eek: Mods are definitely needed.
