I am going to catch up on diaries and give you all a full update on my progress later. :)

    October xx
  • Hellloooo Everyone!

Sorry I haven't been able to update you much lately. OH has been off work the last couple of days and I don't like using his computer when he is home.

So there has been some developments. I had a call on Monday from a recruitment agency and they asked me to go in on the Tuesday. I am a little annoyed with how these recruitment agencies work. They advertise recruitment administrator positions on places like Reeed and then when you apply for them, they ask you to sign up with them and never mention the role that you applied for. It is like they have put a fake position up so that when you apply they can get you to sign up. Well I signed up anyway with the idea that it is all a help and they gave me a few options so fingers crossed that they come up with something.

I got a phone call on the Tuesday for a job interview that I had applied for before I was made redundant. I really do have my hopes up for this one as the branch manager and I had a good chat and even a giggle on the phone and she will be doing my interview. I am nervous about some of the tests they may give me as my skills are a bit rusty in some areas but I am hoping to impress them with my personality and ooze confidence. I think I already impressed her on the phone with my answer to "Why did you apply for this position?" It is a customer service type role and instead of saying something about the company or my ambitions to further my career, I said that it appeared to be a role where I could get to know my customers a lot better and therefore be able to offer products and services that may benefit them. Hopefully more answers like that will help me get the position.

In other news, OH is getting really frustrated with our internet connection. It is really difficult for him as he is a big computer gamer and relies on it a lot. We think my housemate is illegally downloading films and programs and so even when he isn't home, he is taking up huge amounts of bandwidth. Sometimes, even at 6am, I can't watch a video on Utube or during peak times, connect with my phone. OH is doing his best not to spend money but with two of us in a small room all the time and no internet, it is getting a little ructious. Good grief that word just caused an argument between me and DM (She's on the phone as I type this).

We are desperately wanting to move but I also need a new car. OH wants to use my redundancy and EF to pay the deposit, fees and first month's rent for a new place if I get a job soon. I am not happy about this. I think if we are going to move in together then it should be 50/50 from the very beginning, meaning he needs to save up enough to pay half of all those costs. The reason I have my EF is because I saved like crazy the last few months. I can see potential arguments coming over this once I get a new job. :(

One thing that the sign up with the recruitment agency told me was that most of my smart clothes are rather worn and untidy looking. I have a lovely blazer and cardigan that was part of my uniform but they both have the company logo on them. Well.. one perk of learning to sew is that I have become really good at unpicking stitches! So now I have a nice blazer and cardigan with no company logos on. I ordered myself a navy skirt to go with it from E of Bay with the hopes I will look smart.

Well that's everyone updated I think.. :rotfl:

Hope you all have a lovely Friday!

    Hey you!!!

Fab news on the job hunting. The job I am in now, I knew I could do, but they wanted someone who was more qualified in certain areas than I was. I had a broad understanding and some experience but not enough.. What I had when I got there was an easy rapport with my interviewer and my 45 minute interview became a 2 hour long chat. My second interview was then with her and another boss, and he was prodding about certain aspects - i.e. I had only just moved, how did they know I would stick around and not run home. I said.. I need a job in order to provide myself with a home here. Give me the stability that I need and I won't be going anywhere. ;) And the rest was careful questions around what I thought I could do with the job role. I said I was open to challenges, and to a changing job role as they moulded it to suit the company. I would do just fine with whatever challenge they put in front of me. Today, 12 months after moving from that original job to a completely different one with practically no training, it was conceded that I can genuinely do anything that I put my mind to, with the minimum of fuss and reliance on others, but that I will always ask questions if I do not know the answer and can't find out elsewhere.

I know you are the same. So talk yourself up. You can do anything you put your mind to. Don't be afraid to say it.

As for OH.. *palmface* - I am with you. It needs to be 50/50. The only time I would say it shouldn't be 50/50 is if it is purely your name on the lease, and if anything happens he disappears and leaves you in the home you funded and signed for ;) maybe you should put that to him and see if he changes his tune.

Very proud of you. It all sounds so positive! And well done on the make do and mend! I don't even own a blazer... work related or not!! xxx

What a cheek the recruitment agency mentioned your clothes
Probably thought they were being helpful there are some things that are just crossing the line. I remember a guy I had an interview with when I went for my first job said something a bit uncalled for about the interview clothes I'd turned up in (which were fine) and more or less said if they offered me the job I'd have to get new clothes. I was mortally offended  I did get that job but the company went insolvent within 3 months so perhaps they should have spent more time concentrating on more important things :p

You're gonna be fine, I can feel it... you will look great and come across great at the interview, because they both just come naturally. I think you're gonna ace it. Keep us up to speed.. loads of luck :A

  • Hey Everyone!

I am really sorry if I implied the agency said I looked scruffy. They didn't. I was looking through my wardrobe for interview clothes and realised that most of my clothes were really worn or scruffy. Not the super smart items you would want for an interview. I invested in a navy skirt from E of Bay and it goes perfectly with my navy jacket and cardigan from ex work. I just need to decide what top to wear. I am thinking either a white shirt or a cream top. Unfortunately my cream top that would be perfect is up with my DM. Might see if I can get her to send it down for me.

I haven't had any other job related news unfortunately. I am hoping that the job agency will come up with something but I am not holding out any hopes as some of my friends have mentioned that they aren't very good. Their office seemed really busy though when I went in for my interview. I got another call from another agency but they all want me to be a team leader for a call centre (there are LOADS around here). That is something I NEVER want to do, even though I have heard the money is pretty good. I have no experience in a call centre and I do not agree with hard selling, no matter what the product. I don't feel I could be a manager of people doing that job. How can I motivate and encourage people to do things that I am so personally dead against??

In other news, OH and I went to the cinema last night. We went out for a meal at Weatherrrspooons. Cheap and cheerful and then on to the cinema. I decided I would put some effort into our little date and straightened my hair and dressed up a little. Welll... we were walking to the cinema from the pub and passed my ex. I didn't even notice him, I was happily chatting away to OH. I know it is childish but I got a little kick at how my ex would have seen us. Happily walking along, me smiling and chatting away, my OH giving an acknowledging nod as we passed (ex was on the other side of the road). I think we would have looked like a very happy couple. :j Anyway, we went to watch Homee. OMG.. It is such a good movie! I highly recommend it to everyone although there is a strong mother daughter theme. It made me tear up at times but also laugh sooo much. We came out of the cinema and I was totally buzzing. It was such a lovely evening.

I have sorted out a few things to sell on E of Bay and put three tops on. I am really hoping they sell. One already has two watchers so I have my hopes up. I have a few more things that need to go on but they need ironing before I take pictures. I also think I might try and sell some of my other things. It is hard to find some good clothes and even harder to display them in a way that would appeal to people shopping on E of Bay. I have a number of items that are too worn to be put on E of Bay and I am trying to decide if I want to get rid of them or still wear them a bit more. I am thinking of doing a bag for the clothes weighing thingy. I think we have a shop here. Not sure what else I have to sell but I definitely need to get some things put up. Been saying it for months and months.

I also need to finish sorting out my flat as there are still lots of things just hanging around and it looks cluttered. I have loads of things for baking and sewing and I need to start filling my time productively. I say that, I slept in until 11am today. I do not know what is wrong with me! I took OH to work at 5am and came home and zonked out. I wouldn't mind but I was asleep before 10pm!

Right, I am going to try and catch up on a few diaries (which is hard because some of you have pages and pages per day! :rotfl:

    Have a lovely afternoon all!

Sounds a good night out. Will have to look out for that film.

Don't sell yourself short, I would hate a call centre job too.

Totally agree go 50/50 from the start with OH you seem to have your head screwed on then. I have learnt the hard way .

I find dresses are the best for work, interviews - more comfortable. Throw a scarf on to powerdress lol x

Lovely post October. I love that you were dressed up when you *saw* your ex. That is karma ;)

I wanted to see that film too but I hate how much the cinema costs. I have said I will go when I get my bonus, but we shall see. It is a train and a bus there, and the same back, even though it is 15 minutes drive up the motorway :(

Got all my fingers crossed for you for the job interview. I found a website for workwear and if when the stuff turns up it's any good I will let you know, because it had a big clearance section and was great!! Reductions from £29 to £3.60 for black skirts for example! ;)

I worked in a call centre; two in fact, when I first left college. One was Cap 1, and the other a power company EEEon. Although when I worked there they had a different name. They both gave me a great understanding of finances just as I was looking to leave him which was good. I worked in debt management in the first one and spent all day filling out income and expenditure forms based on government averages, then moved onto sales and quickly left, and then at the other I learned all about utility costs, averages, efficiency and how to get the most out of things :) - that bit was great but working in a call centre destroyed me. So boring, monotonous and busy al of the time. Sales driven although I have heard most companies have backed off targets on sales these days... I would never go back, so good for you!!!

Big hugs. Sorry for the giant diary. It has been taken over by forces beyond my control!!! xxx
