So, a tree fell down in the road today (due to the winds) as the council were cutting it down I asked for a slice of it to put my wedding cake on. The guy cut me a perfect piece, I think I just need to store it somewhere dark now and wax or varnish it nearer the time.Married 1st October 2015:heartpuls

I also had the Bolton one in mind to look at, which one would you recommend more? that's a brilliant price that your friend has paid. I would be made up with that!
It's going to take about 8 months for the dress to come through from the designer so I'm going to phone them in June and arrange the first fitting for around then.
I would definitely go to the Bolton one; all the staff were lovely, very friendly, had a lot of good advice, very helpful and overall it was a lovely experience. They also had A LOT of choice. In the Bromley one they were just standing around in one big group chatting, and apart from telling me the procedure when I arrived they only spoke to me when I went to leave the store and hadn't tried anything on!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

I'm doing the same thing for my centre pieces but luckily my parents neighbour is a tree surgeon and he can give me offcuts for free too.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
blimey - I only got engaged this week and we would like to get married on 21s Oct next year which is our anniversary date from dating and getting engaged. No point me doing more than research as need to finish getting house ready to put on market to sell first and wait for it to sell as any plans are dependant on that and the money from sale. Including getting a marital home and paying for a wedding.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Congratulations on your engagement! Hopfully your house will sell and then you can start your planning with earnest!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -
Eeek! We hit the "1 year to go" mark yesterday (so I can now say we have less than a year to go!). Ordered our wedding rings with the jeweller and they ended up almost 30% cheaper than on the high street. That's what happens when you buy direct from a designer I guess! OH has confirmed our booking with the registrar and we've booked our appointment to give notice in December. It's all really starting to come together now, although the bank balance is getting depleted at an alarming rate!Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Really annoyed this week- I've found out that the pianist we wanted is unavailable (typically I wasn't told that until I'd paid the deposit!) and the hotel we had our heart set on is almost completely booked, with only the most expensive rooms remaining.
Has anyone sorted out their cake yet? I know it's supposed to be done around 6 months before, but I'm just trying to get quotes at the moment. I'm finding a lot of people simply don't respond so I can only assume they have no interest until nearer the time.
So annoying as there are literally no wedding cake makers in the town I'm getting married in, so my options are limited already!0 -

That's awful, why take your money if they knew they weren't available?
We're having the same problem when it comes to hotels; our venue doesn't have accommodation and all the local ones are really out of our price range.
Cake wise we're having a friend's wife make it as it's her job anyway and she offered. Depends on where you are but I know there are a lot of people on facebook who make cakes or you could just try a local bakery if you haven't done that already?Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170 -

It does seem a bit cheeky- I think according to their records he was available, but it makes sense to double-check before taking the deposit!
I suppose you can always try haggling for accommodation- there's nothing to lose after all! They may be especially willing if you're booking more than one room.
Trying a bakery is a great idea, I hadn't considered that! I will give that a go. Thanks0 -
We have an appointment made with Hockleys (Northamptonshire, where our wedding venue is) on 2nd December, love the look of their cakes so we are sampling a few that day.
ruby- we are trying to sort out the wedding rings at the moment, my other half wants to use the company that made my engagement ring, because my ring is platinum I was told that my wedding ring would also have to be but after doing some research I can actually have Palladium which is a little cheaper.
We have confirmed the booking with the registrar and will be getting married at 2pm but we need to make an appointment to give notice.
I have also booked the flights and villa for the honeymoon yay... 3 weeks in Orlando (I love this place)
It's fair to say this is putting a huge dent in the wedding fund ooops.Married 1st October 2015:heartpuls
