I also believe that they should be accountable and be held to account, and frequently reminded of who they were elected to serve.
Anyhow… The Wolf of Wall Street is coming on…. is it any good?fairclaire wrote: »Im not wanting to get drawn into this but that reads to me like you are contradicting yourself?
MPs don't get paid enough, you said. Now you are saying that they're not held accountable? So why do they need more money? Are you saying if they were paid more they'd perform better?
If that's so, ask the nurses, teachers, soldiers, firemen, police etc. if they'd perform better on more money. I think you'll find there's not much room for improvement in those professions.
Im a fan of living within your means, whatever they might be.
My post did not contradict itself and I have not posted about improvements in these professions, when people are giving 110% how can they give more?
I have a nurse, teachers and a fireman, as well as members of the armed forces in my family, and I don't think any of them are paid enough, all of them need a second wage earner i.e. their spouse to work. I think everyone on here believes in living within means, no matter how difficult it is.

In some cases......like my OH, who for want of a better phrase, was a bit of a bad lad as a teenager, there's not a lot of other options.
He spent some time in 'special school' for bad boys. Not something he's proud of but he did some petty stuff that got him in trouble and it was his best chance of a proper job/career. And he did have a great career. It could have been very different.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of benefits to it, not least that's it's the best career training you can get.
Yes, there's a chance you could pay the ultimate price. The time spent apart for families Isnt easy either. I can't explain very well how you accept that.......you just do. You know what my OH has been through, but he will sit here and say he wouldn't change his chosen path. And I've never spoken to anyone in his position who's said different.
Utmost respect to those that have served!!:T:T

Most of the people in my family do not work in these professions, yet they too need a second wage earner in their family units. I think there are very few people who can claim that they are paid enough. I for one am not. And I've not had an increase or a bonus in 4 years .....Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

shes just finished a 12 hr shift on the agency because of the need to find other ways for income
Someone I was friends with managed to get rebanded to band 7 when she was doing a similar nursing role, and they backdated it too which I imagine was a nice amount of money - is that an option?
I think in terms of careers, to a certain degree people know how much the career is likely to earn them when/before they pursue it. Problem is, that wage doesn't afford the same standard of living that it used toFinal cigarette smoked 02/01/18
